Awesome.
Anc, I am not enough of a Trek geek to get the Kapla reference was Klingon... imagine my bewilderment when I saw this wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapla) on googling it. I didn't get the (in hindsight pretty obvious) reference to Trek until I saw the Urban Dictionary definition.
:o
I'm so ashamed!

Ever since the William Shatner roast and the raunchy jokes George Takei made, I've loved the guy. He's hilarious and awesome in so many ways.

Orwell would LOVE this one. Thought control through the banning of words.

I don't know enough about how US politics works...
What does passed in the Senate actually mean? Has it become law?
What does the companion bill has been removed from consideration in the House mean?
Also if it does get passed does this mean they can't talk about the birds and the bees as that isn't HUMAN reproduction, but they can talk about people fucking.

Most US States and the US Federal government use a bicameral system where a bill must pass in two chambers of legislature before being signed into law by the executive power (Governor in states, President in federal). So in this case the bill was passed in one chamber of the state legislature, but not the other so it won't become law this year. If the House passes it in next years session then it will move to the Governor to sign into law.
If it does get passed it will make it so that public school teachers would be unable to mention anything but straight relationships to classes until High School level. The downside is that young kids who have gay parents would be unable to have teacher assistance in explaining their family life, which really sucks for them. Also, the law is one more way for the state to say that gay people are abnormal and don't deserve to be treated with respect or consideration.

The executive branch (governors for states, president for nation) can veto the bill, meaning it doesn't get to be a law. If the bill has enough support in the legislature, they can override the veto and enact the law anyway. This rarely happens because you need a 2/3 majority to override a veto.
After a law is enacted, it is possible for the judicial branch to strike it down (state or federal supreme courts), usually if they determine that the law violates the constitution.
It is then possible for the legislative branch to attempt to change the constitution... and so on.

I posted details about this bill a month ago. The thread the posts are in is really gay, so I understand if no one saw them:
