Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't have to pray for the laws to change in America to make it to higher office.

The movie star turned California governor may be planting the seeds for a run for the boss of the European Union, one of his former cabinet members hinted to Newsweek.

"In the next few years, the EU will be looking for a much more high-profile president - somebody who can unify Europe," Terry Tamminen, who had a spot in the Governator's cabinet, told the magazine.

"The French won't want a German, and the Germans won't want an Italian. How about a European-born person who went off to America and could return to be the \[George\] Washington or \[Thomas\] Jefferson of a new unified Europe?"

Schwarzenegger's popularity remains sky-high in Europe.

He recently attended ex-Soviet chief Mikhail Gorbachev's birthday party, with a reporter in tow. And he met with politicians including British Prime Minister David Cameron.

He also had paparazzi trailing him throughout his visit, the magazine noted, with fans at every turn.

But swooning European voters won't be able to cast a ballot for the head of the European Union.

The President of the European Council is voted on by the leaders of participating countries.

Still, fans would love to see the Governator have another leadership stint.

"It would be awesome," one wrote on his Facebook page.

Schwarzenegger has stayed silent on the issue, and instead his been crowing on Twitter about his recent meeting with President Barack Obama.

"Great mtg w/ Pres Obama on immigration reform," he tweeted Tuesday. "We need to enforce our laws, secure our border and allow for better economic opportunity."

The worst of this strange idea is that it could work...

There is no such a thing as "president of the EU" anyway, and I guess this is probably some kind of brain fart from Tamminen. But if some politician were to elected at such a post, I guess being of hollywood fame and being somewhat "neutral" on a national basis could help.

I hear he wasn't really born in Austria. So far he hasn't been willing to produce a birth certificate proving he was born in Austria and that accent sounds kind of fake to me.

Arnold did an okay job locally. The problem was he has no idea how to negotiate between conflicted parties. He offended both Democrats and Republicans pretty severely in just his first few months in office, and he's been a virtual lame duck on the big issues ever since.

He could have been worse.

Oh my god. Send him here. Good god, PLEASE send him here. That is a man I would follow and vote for in a heartbeat. Not knowing his politics, I took a gander at his Wiki page. I was afraid he'd turn out to be a neo-Nazi or such and the first word that kept popping out was "right-wing" and the fact that he's associated with a fringe party.

Well, maybe you can fill me in on whether he's really Mr. Horrible or what, and if he is I'll welcome being corrected, but it looks like the basic platform of the party he founded "adheres to an ideology that has been identified as being eurosceptic, populist and conservative. The party also contains elements of classical liberalism and libertarianism, such as supporting free trade and a flat tax rate." If that's really what he's about, I can stand a little conservationism, as long as he's not a closet Hitler lover.

California is basically ungovernable (thanks to all those Propositions that earmark funds for special purposes that are placed on every election ballot), but Schwarzenegger did a reasonable job, although he was despised by many of those working in the sectors he cut. He is a relatively liberal, centrist Republican, married into a family of progressive Democrats. It's hard to dislike him. I admit to voting for him when he ran for re-election, even though I'm a dyed in the wool Democrat.

I don't know all that much about the UKIP's politics, but I do approve of his attitude toward the EU. Here's some more:

That the current crop of EU leaders are allergic to democracy and in love with a patently absurd and fundamentally broken economic theory is pretty much something everyone with a brain can agree upon.
