Another easy one as we get back into the swing of things.

Easy?

O_o

My only thought is that it might be a word that's spelled out phonetically. ^ is kind of an "ahh" sound, and @ is kinda R'ish. I don't know if ":" or the arrow are represented.

arrow is a carriage return, I think.

":" is a letter in the iroquois written language. I doubt it has anything to do with that, though.

Maybe something about the position of these keystrokes on the keyboard ? Or is there an ascii code for carriage returns ?

arrow is a carriage return, I think.

I agree, on my keyboard it is the symbol on the 'Enter' key.

So maybe followed by the 's' it stands for returns or enters?

In fact most of the other symbols could be considered as parts of words

^ is the only one I'm not sure of.... maybe up?
: is colon
@ is at
and if we take the arrow as enter

W^colonelatecenters

Don't know if that works at all? Maybe it will give someone another idea?

@ is originally a cursive ad. Not the English abbreviation of advertisement, the Latin word for "at".

W^:el@ec←s

Hmm.

Double-U caret colonel ate centers?

Is it about an officer eating carrot cake with Bush Junior?

Could that be something written in shorthand? If so, does anybody here know how to read it?

Edit: Looking around, I don't think it's shorthand.

The caret (^) is also called chevron, wedge, up arrow, or hat.

If we use hat, W^ gives "What". So "What colonel ate centers". It's nearly a sentence. But if it's the solution, I don't get it. What is "eating centers" supposed to mean? "creturns" or "cline feeds" doesn't really work any better than "centers".

White Chocolate Centers? What Colonel Sanders...?

what if the 'enter' symbol means return (as in the previously mentioned 9carriage return)

What colonel ate see returns

..which sounds pretty vomitious in intent. ;)

I got nothing.

Maybe:
What colonel at sea returns

edit: just realized I left off the e...

What colonel ate centers?

At least that's a proper question, the answer to which might be the solution.

...I see somebody else already came up with that.

Centers. Could be a building, like a community center. Or more likely the center of an edible object. I'm thinking oreos.

Don't think that helps

Googling keeps turning up THIS thread.

Also a thread on the XKCD forums where they're apparently working on the same puzzle. I didn't peek.

"What colonel ate" is certainly that. "Centers", however, doesn't make sense. "Sarrows" doesn't either.

I went here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_%28symbol%29) to investigate other possible names for this symbol used here. The one that looks the closest is ↩: "Leftwards Arrow With Hook". Huh.

The answer is probably "Fried Chicken."

I hope not.

I feel like we're all really close to the answer, but we just can't see it. And poor PiS has to wait and watch us struggle.

I don't know but Colonel Ate Centers sounds very close to Colonel H. Sanders.
