It's day 3 and we are now in Albert Lea, MN. Today was really bad. South Dakota will now be known to me forever as Puke-Dakota. My son got sick twice and the chihuahua puked on me as well. The wind was blowing something fierce and it rained the entire day but at the end we saw the biggest rainbow ever. The trip is slower going because of all the stops and the fact that kids can't sit as long as we thought they could. I'd love to be in Cleveland by tomorrow night but I don't think that will happen.

Yeah when traveling with kids you need to tack on several hours or in your case maybe another day of travel time. It might help you guys to stop overnight more frequently to keep everyone happy.
Hope the rest of the trip goes okay.

Now... if I remember right... when you get there, you're going to be crashing at a motel until you find a place to live, right?
Which to me means... don't rush. Stop at scenic sites. Try out that odd little restaurant. Take state highways instead of Interstates. Drive slower. Have a picnic at the rest stop.
I mean, what's the difference, really, between sleeping in a motel on the road, and sleeping in one at your destination? Might as well make the trip more tolerable.

We can't do that because we'll run out of money before we get to Boston. In Boston the hotel is paid for until we find a place. Also Sing starts work on Monday.
We made it to Ohio tonight. Not far into Ohio as I'd like to be so that means will have one more night somewhere before we get to the Boston area.
Thankfully my son isn't as sick as he was yesterday. Chicago was hell to drive through. Glad that's over with.

Chicago is hell to drive through no matter what else is going on... I could be getting road head and it would be ruined by driving near Chicago.
The next hell state you will pass through is Pennsylvania... its 200 miles wide but the road snakes so much it take close to 6 hours to cross.
After that I don't recall any particulary terrible states to drive through.

Oh great. I wonder if I can avoid Pennsylvania. Guess I should look at the map. I need to get cash for the tolls today. We are going to break up our 808 miles into 2 days. My oldest 2 kids are now sick with what the younger two kids had for the last few days.
Here are a few pictures from the Wyoming/S.Dakota run.

No.... Pennsylvania is beautiful! You can't skip us. :(
....6 hours of Hell. Sounds like me visiting my sister in NC. Virginia is like that but the scenery makes up for it.

I just checked my trip plan. We are still staying on I-90 so we'll go through the tippy top of Pennsylvania. Hopefully we can get on the road by 10am. I'm trying to get the rest of the kids to wake up.

I won't argue its beautiul its just annoying that the roads are twisting all over and going up and down so that a short drive takes most of a day... I remember looking to my left after driving for a half hour and seeing the exit I used to get gas still visable from where I was.

I'm terrible at US geography. Chicago is at the top. Texas is at the bottom. NY and boston are on the right, Droid and all the other queens are on the left.
Also, I assume that everyone who isn't a californian or new yorker is in the middle somewhere. How come you went North to chicago?

Washington is above Droids faggotry miasma on about the same parallel as Boston so taking a northern route makes a lot of sense and Chicago is about the mid point of the trip with an eastern bias.

Washington state is a lot farther north than you may realize. The straightest route from there to Boston, without actually touching Canadia, hugs the Great Lakes. And you can't really blame the lady for not wanting to touch Canadia.
Edit to add wiki pic.

HEY!
What's wrong with touching Canadia? Canadia feels goooood...

You guys crack me up. :win: We saw 2 of the great lakes. That was cool. We are in our hotel room now in MA and will probably be living out of here for a month or so. Today we need to go get groceries and things like that. At least the weather is finally looking better. I hope I can drive these roads. They're a little scary.

You guys passed right by me and didn't stop?
I've been to Marlborough, you aren't into the true Boston Traffic yet. :grey:

I really envy your arrival there this time of year, LF. The colors of the leaves change and the drives through sleepy little villages with their commons and white spires on the churches is nearly magical. Do take advantage of Columbus Day weekend to go leaf peeping. And try some of that great local maple walnut ice cream. I miss it so. It's not available out here.

We did a little driving around so far. There are little ponds all over the place. In some spots the leaves have started to change colors. I do have a lot of pics from the drive over of the forests and they are gorgeous! I've never seen forests that weren't all pine trees.

Settling into this hotel will be easy. I just got done taking the kids swimming and noticed the really nice exercise room. They provide dinner here Mon-Thursday and breakfast every morning. I won't have to cook much at all.:D
Here are few pics of the room we're staying in.

Those accommodations really look deluxe! And the swimming pool sounds great. I remember picking blueberries at a pick your own farm in or near Harvard MA, but I think it might be a little late. It was fun. We went with some friends and their two young children.
Do check out Walden Pond while it's still warm enough. If you aren't up for a swim, it's a nice hike, too, and not far from you.

The animals are here with us. They take pets. There's a nice trail for walking around as well. The cats seem to be doing well. The dogs have been sleeping all day. I think they got tired from the long trip.

I'll have to look for it. Sounds wonderful. I did find a really nice park that has some hiking trails as well. Tomorrow we plan on going into Boston. My mother in law wants to see it as well as the Atlantic ocean. She's never been to see it and neither have we. She leaves for Pullman Sunday morning so we need to get it in before she leaves.

If you want to show your mother in law the ocean, may I recommend the Singing Beach at Manchester by the Sea? It's up on Cape Ann, about 45 minutes north of Boston. It's a beautiful beach and there's a nice little restaurant in town where you can get seafood--it's very informal and not expensive. If you want to drive a little farther up, Marblehead is gorgeous and there's a sweet little restaurant on the harbor called The Barnacle that has good, reasonably priced seafood. It's a sweet little town that really retains the 18th century character of a New England fishing village. For Halloween you really should take the kids to Salem, to the witch house and the Peabody Essex Museum has great whaling exhibits/ships, and the like. Halloween is a really big deal out there so they should have great fun. Maynard had a lovely little Halloween parade with the local kids in costumes down the main street and the businesses all had candy for the kids.

Yeah it was something alright. Would have been more fun without so many animals and children but I did manage to enjoy myself through a few states.
Today we're going site seeing before my mother in law leaves early tomorrow morning.
