This has the potential to be the coolest fucking comic book movie, yet.

Or, they might fuck it up. I can hope, though.

I . . . I feel strangely passionate about seeing this. I'm not even really an Iron Man fan. It just looks fantastic.

I just told my wife (who often gets me to watch arthouse films such as Brand Upon The Brain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443455/) and Dr. Plonk (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0783511/)) that I would be going to see this and that she should come along only if the trailer appealed to her. She agreed that she probably wasn't the target audience. So now I've got to figure out who I'm going to see this with.

I'm so fucking jazzed about this. I think that Downey was not merely the right choice, but that he's going to own the character after this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It looks like they might have found the right director, the right cast, and the right balance of special effects.

Edit: Man, I just watched it again and grinned from ear to ear.

then I nerded a lot when they actually went for it and started playing the song...

Who's the villain? Who was Ironman greatest foe ?

They're going with the Iron Monger, I think -- if I'm remembering correctly and rumours were true, that is. ;) During what's probably the best IM storyline they ever did, Tony's increasing dependence upon alcohol finally tumbles him over the edge, and he loses his company. It's taken over by a sociopathic bastard named Stane, who corrupts Stark's life's work and eventually confronts him as a darker version of himself.

I agree, that was just an awesome storyline.

Jeff Bridges is playing Stane, btw.

Holy crap! Did anyone else read the issue 200 book?

Wow... just wow.

The only book I had from that run was Cap trying to hunt Tony down after his collapse and subsequent dissapearance. He ends up finding Tony drunk out of his skull in some slum apartment, stinking to high Heaven and incapable of a coherent thought. He wants nothing but to lay there and drink himself to death.

Cap ends up having to battle off an arsonist (with tights and funky flame gadgets of course) while trying to save a drunken Stark both from the flames and from himself.

I found a blog which covered it nicely: http://the-isb.blogspot.com/2006/03/badass-panels-volume-6-iron-man-200.html

What? No Thor? YOU SUCK!!!

Actually, they're working on a Thor movie right now. They've got a script, they've got a director, and they're looking for a star. The guy the director's eyeing is a skinny British actor. I'm hoping they're considering him for Don Blake.

As for Thor? I think Juoko Ahola would be fitting in the role. (The big Germanic mercenary that died early on in Kingdom of Heaven)

In that case, I retract every obscene and offensive word I screamed about you after reading your post.

God, those TV movies were bad. They were like a "how to" film, showing people how to best screw up a simple concept.
