If by that, you mean send him into combat first. Give him a heroic death, so that behind his magical mental shackles he realizes he wasn't quite worthless before he dies.

I think he's a wererat. He claims he isn't, even though we saw him transform from rat to human right in front of us.

He also appears to be very simple-minded, like the protagonist of Flowers for Algernon or Lenny from Of Mice and Men.

Step 3: Set him loose to wreak bloody vengence on your enemies...
