This generation also has a smaller design (but the screen is still 6 inches) and better contrast (so the background looks whiter, instead of off-gray).
The wifi-only version is $139.
If money wasn't so tight right now... man... I kinda want this.

Amazon Reports Kindle Sold Out (http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Desktops-and-Notebooks/Amazon-Reports-Kindle-Sold-Out-345685/).
They don't have them in stock any more anyway.

I'm still looking for an e-reader for all my pdf game books. Is there one yet that does a good job with those?

Until there is one closer to the size of the book or the pdf's are formated for the size of the screen then the answer is no.
PDF's don't support dynamic resizing well at all.

pdfs drive me nuts and I have a ton of them. I sure would like an iPad though.

I want an A4 electronic color paper character sheet (well, I could accept the US letter format). The ipad is too small, and I don't want an LCD screen. The stuff must be able to endure a 12 hours RPG session unplugged.
No need for stinky webcam, but wi-fi is a must. And a mini-hdmi output (or the soon to be wireless hdmi) for the day when I will use a videoprojector rather than a battlemap.
I guess we will have it for D&D 5, in 2018.

Apparently on the Nook (don't know about the Kindle) if you buy the extended warranty it covers dropping the thing in the tub. I was looking at these this weekend and that was the first thing a friend told me and was incredibly happy about it.
