Not sure what to think really. If you are going to change an icon shouldn't you make it less cliche rather than more so?

"It's a look designed to be taken seriously as a warrior, in partial answer to the many female fans over the years who've asked, 'how does she fight in that thing without all her parts falling out?'" said incoming series writer J. Michael Straczynski.

Yet another piece of evidence for the massive pile that suggests most comic artists are long divorced from reality, and should have tried to date more in High School.

Get over yourselves, guys. Be taken seriously as a warrior? When you've got Superman and Batman running around in tights that show every freakin' line of their bodies, save for where they have their gitch? Looking like an escapee from a 1980's sexsploitation video doesn't make Wonder Woman look more capable as a warrior. "A street fighter's look"? Seriously?!? (Have they ever been in a fight? Or seen one?)

I should also mention that nine times out of ten, I hate Jim Lee's costume designs, and I'm not terribly fond of the Arthur Adams knock-off line of artists, including Rob Liefeld.

Of course, there's also the BS hype behind this. Let's see if this change actually lasts longer than the white suit from the 60's and 70's. This reads more like a modern rendition of Wonder Girl. Stracyznski's a good writer, but Jeebus, this seems like another case of somebody changing a character because they don't 'get' the original and need to deck it out in all their own trappings to be able to do something with it.

Dude, does anyone but mentally screwed up fanboys ever like Rob Liefeld?
Check out this image (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RobLiefeld) from TV Tropes. Her arm is wider than her waist. Something's not right with how that man sees the world.

Goddamn, you took the words right outta my mouth on this one. She looks like every single dark and moody character they've made or updated since the late 80's/early 90's. Nothing new under the sun.

Are they using boilerplate text?

Linda Carter approves (http://abcnews.go.com/WN/womans-wardrobe-lower-heels-biker-jacket-sexy/story?id=11046362&page=2):

"I think it will take time for people to get over not seeing a lot of leg," said Carter, the actress and singer who played the character in the 1970s television series. "[But] I think it's going to be very sexy and it's new and I love the little cap sleeve. You know, she's a hip girl."

I'm not saying I disagree with your overall impression of it being a bit ho hum, but this line has me confused. The outfit seems rather understated to me. I don't know if it's because I'm jaded because of my, ah, hobbies,

It smacks a lot of the promotion behind the blue Electric Superman that was hyped c. 1997.

I expect we'll see the Amazing Amazon back in her classic togs before 2011 is out, and once this "new direction" storyline has played out.

Probably by design, if not default.

I wonder how much of this is a bit of rebranding ahead of a movie.

There was a white disco-inspired outfit in the 70's, too. Dini and Timm paid sly tribute to it in the Justice League cartoon when the heroes went 'undercover' to avoid the Thangarians: Batman simply changed into Bruce Wayne, and Diana was running around in all-white quasi-disco chique.

Good call. I'd forgotten about the electric Superman crap. If Jim Lee's design ends up getting used for the movie, I'll be disappointed. I'd rather see something closer to Perez's Greco-Roman inspired armoured look. Considered doodling up something along those lines several times, myself.

Look at the Jim Lee costume, and then cast your mind back, back in time... back to the 1980's. Think of cheezy, crappy, hard rock and heavy metal videos. Think of Lee Aarron's wardrobe, or any of the other rocker girls of that era. Laughable costumes that were meant to make super-skinny, pretty-pretty princess girls look "street tough" as they pouted at the camera.

Now give Wonder Woman poofy hair.

It's like a Way-Way-Back Machine, isn't it? ;)

Movie makers from Montreal. Calling what they do B-movies is generous.

I saw Recon 2020, an indy sci-fi film, at Fantasia a few years ago. The result was doubtful but went again a year or two afterward to see Recon 2022. Then we took a pass when Recon 2023 played. The first two were bad for reasons that had nothing to do with monetary means (pacing, dialogues, framing and so on). I mean, I love me a good cheesy local DIY film (like, say, Sinner and Saints, Order of One or the utterly amazing Cul-de-$ac), but that wasn't it.

This series/movie might be made by a different director/producer, though. It's the same company behind it and some of the same actors, but it could still be good. *fingers crossed*

Holy crap, but that's bad. Yet amusing.

Also, I wonder if they end up crossing the IP of the already-existing heroine, Fleur de Lys?

Are you talking about the DC one or the Northguard one ? ;)

Northguard. I was unaware that DC had one! Though they're far more likely to actually take legal acton... if unlikely to do so over something this low-budget. I somehow don't think they'll feel threatened. ;)

Coming from this as a HUGE WW fan (grew up with the show and a big retrospective book of strips from the 1940s), though not one who has kept up with the series since the 1970s. . .
The costume is a drag. As a columnist on Salon said, "You know what's great about a jacket? Nothing."
But my real ire is reserved for the character reboot. Classic WW was raised on Paradise Island among Amazons. As a result, she never knew a world where women weren't strong, dexterous, and smart. She comes to the "world of man" with a sense of adventure and playfulness, strong curiosity, and mild confusion about women who play dumb or feel helpless. She had no superpowers; just advanced technology (invisible plane, communication device to Paradise Island) and a magic lasso.
In the reboot, WW left Paradise Island as a child, and has no memory of her mother or Amazons. Instead, she's been raised by robed and hooded "guardians" who have kept her in the dark about her history and "destiny." Result? A teen goth whiner with a shitty attitude and no sense of her own power, much less a sense of humor. What a bore.
I realize that character reboots are nothing new, and can inject new life into an old character. I guess what I'm saying is that this version of WW would never have inspired me as a 6-yr-old kid.
I introduced Caliphis's daughter to WW last year, and saw her whole world view shift when she realized that women could be superheros, too. Last xmas she got a (very tame, classic) WW costume that she is wearing to pieces. Luckily there's enough classic WW books out there to keep her occupied for a long time - and ignorant of the sulky teenage version.

Gail Simone is awesome. She's really a treasure in the industry. And Perez? What can you say about the guy? He's a legend for a reason. I feel really lucky to have experienced comics before the industry went down the hole: back when you could pick up stacks of the things without needing a part-time job just to afford an afternoon's worth of reading. We got a great last hurrah in the form of the '86 reboot.

Sure, it was controversial at the time, and some people bitched ceaselessly about how it wasn't staying 'true' to the characters... but that was utter shit that would have fit in perfectly with the whining of internet fatbeards today. Batman became the coolest fucking thing on the planet, Superman got some fantastic stories told about him again (as well as some twists on the character that allowed people to relate to him once again), and Wonder Woman was fortunate enough to have Perez turn her into a fantastic icon of feminine power, without the need to have her act like a bad gender stereotype, male wish fulfillment, or perhaps most trite of all -- a woman who can only be strong in acting like a stereotypical, boorish male. She was gentle, wise, compassionate, and could still kick your ass!

We lucked out. Sure, there have been some great stories told since then, but there's also a lot more ego running the industry. This has been great for independant comics, but a bane for the mainstream ones.

Dude... say it after me: nothing is fucked, dude. Nothing is fucked.

It's Jim Lee. He makes good artwork, but it is kind of flash in the pan stuff. Remember his Batman revamp? Hush? I'm impressed. I didn't really find anything about it that made it stand out, but I must confess I've been drifting further and further away from being a comic fan for a while now... I just can't get excited about Cape Books anymore. I need something more like Sandman, Preacher, or Hellblazer to get involved with a comic. The world of superheroes has become so convoluted, self-referential, self-congratulatory, and (to my perspective) blatantly out for my ca$h with crossovers, multi-book mega-stories (almost universally shitty), and resurrecting obscure third stringers in ways that renders them (temporarily) earthshakingly powerful.

No thank you. I've got a lot of other things to catch up on, like the Berserk manga, the Black Company series, and a shit ton of films.

I'm watching it at the moment.

So... they are on a super covert mission to head to Berlin ... and blow every outpost they find on they way! Cause yeah, explosions are so covert!

- ok, turn off brain...

The first episode is ... meh. It's chaotic battle that doesn't really seem to make any tactical sense (which irritates me), tells me very little, and I never felt engaged. The comic on the other hand made a lot more sense, and had a lot more story content. You *learned* something from it.

Second episode was definitely better - nothing award wining, but it was consistent, more engaging, and provided more information.

Definitely lacks the curvy latex ladies I was promised though!
