He was a stray dog, adopted and taken overseas by a U.S. soldier. Sgt. Stubby's heroics included saving Americans from being gassed in their trenches, capturing a German spy, and helping to locate the wounded He received numerous medals and became the first dog given a rank in the U.S. armed forces.
