MURRIETA, Calif. (KABC) -- Murrieta police say that two large dogs chewed off the testicles of a 6-month-old boy strapped in a baby carrier on Saturday.

According to police, the baby was left alone in a Riverside County apartment when the attack happened.

The mother, 22-year-old Carrie McKinney, left her child in the carrier on the floor in her friend's apartment. Police say that is when the pit bull and pit bull mix attacked the baby, tearing off the infant's diaper and biting his scrotum.

After hearing the baby scream, the mother and a friend rescued the child. He was hospitalized, but his condition is unknown.

Police and child protective services are investigating, but no charges have been filed. The dogs are being euthanized.

What the hell was that mother thinking leaving her baby unattended in an apartment? And no charges are being brought up???

Unattended and on the floor with a dog wandering loose, an unfamiliar dog.

Small children and pets should not be left alone together. I don't care if you have had the pet for 15 years, you never know what could happen. By the good will of the pet or not. But small children shouldn't be left alone period.

This was a stupid, Stupid move on the part of the mother.

Don't get me wrong, and animal that attacks a defenseless child which potentially did nothing to it (kids have grabby hands though) should be euthanized in my opinion. But the mother made the shitty choices. Blaming it on the breed is also a load of crap to me too. Again I am more for blaming idiot people then the dog or it's breed, but the dog does need to be put down.

As much as we love our dogs, they are banned from baby's room. Already.

They're smart enough to understand that they only get in trouble for breaking the rules when we're not looking. So they're too smart to be trusted.

Also, we beat them with sticks and feed them infant blood on a daily basis.

When are people going to learn that animals and children need to be monitored when they interact, especially children and DOGS.

Let alone pitbulls.

Violent breed. Kill em all says I. :D

It's not just dogs that need to be watched around children. Some cats have been known to attack for no reason. Before my first daughter was born, I put tin foil in her crib to teach the cats to stay out. Worked well but we were also very careful to no shut the cat in the room when we put our daughter to bed at night. Now days it's the kids terrorizing the cats by trapping them in with them.

As for the pit bulls in this article, it sounded more like the dogs were hungry as apposed to attacking out of boredom. Dogs love messy diapers. All dogs. So my guess would be this baby must have messed himself and the dogs were going after what they thought to be food. Gross I know. And it still doesn't make it right. The mother of this baby is just as much to blame as the dogs.

That's why I started by saying any animal, not just dogs.

But in general, I agree with Stannis on this subject when it comes to pitbulls. No skin off me if the entire breed is exterminated.

If act aggressive towards a child, I recommending starving them as punishment. That'll show 'em who's boss !

My sentiment exactly. The first thought out of my head, before I'd gotten more than a sentence into the story, was "That Darwin sure is a bitch".

They might seem like good doggies, but you never know when they might decide to get nuts.
