It seems my cold emotionless stare and general demeanor has fianlly saved me from sitting on a Jury.
Bullet dodged!
It also helps to be very forthcoming that you want in on any murder trials so that you can work on your own premeditation.
"I always vote guilty" also works.

Well if they weren't guilty they wouldn't have been arrested, right?

I would love to serve on a jury, and consider it right up there with voting among things that define an American, but I never get picked. I've made it to the interview stage many times, but there's always one, little, teensy weensy thing that keeps me out.
I know too many cops. Last time around, on two occasions I was practically "in" until the attorneys trotted out the arresting officers.
"Uh, hi Fred..." or somesuch, and once again, off I go. :(

I've been called in 7 times now and have sat on a civil and a criminal thus far... its a civic duty and all but depending on where you live it comes up to damn often and you start not wanting to be a good citizen.

Damn, seven times, Limper? Are you cursed or something?
I've never been called up. :( I would love to be, but everyone says they're excruciatingly boring. Maybe I'm wierd, heh.

St Louis City has a small eligable population compared to most cities but all the crime of a normal city. We have 300k residents 60k of which are Bosnians (in process of citizenship) and 80k hispanics (same issue), they pay taxes but they aren't part of the jury pool yet. Felonys also disqualify you so most of the hoosiers and ghetobums are out for that.
All of our suburbs are divorced and seperate from the counties.
For the record before getting called all those times and seeing the system in action on both criminal and civil cases I also wanted to be on a jury and thought it would be an honor.
Never been called

I've been called many times, five or six, but have never sat on a jury. The summons came in Memphis, Milwaukee and Alton, IL.

Alton would have been fun I'm sure.

Have you ever been in their courthouse? I imagine most of the cases would have been weekend drunks and folks not using their turn signals.

They had Alton IL. on the Food Network last Saturday, Alton Brown was doing his Feasting on Asphalt(the river run) show and passed thru there. He went to Fast Eddie's Bon Air and Pie Town, been there ?

I urinated ON their courthouse one night after drinking up in the caves... but I've never been in it.

Actually it doesn't.
I was almost on a trial for a child molester and told the judge outright that I would vote guilty. I was put on the jury and was only bumped at the last minute.
i'm 32 and never received so much as a letter of summons. i know there are millions of people in Cook county, but still... that is a bit surprising!

I was disqualified because my latin teacher was picked and like a moron I waved and said "Hi Mr. Kahlenberg"

I almost got picked, too. Stupid lawyers didn't like my Judge Dredd costume. Assholes.
So if you show up in a "Hang the fuckers" t-shirt you'll get out of it ?

Not necessarily. It comes down to politics in the jury picks and whether or not the Judge has heard a lot of excuses and let a lot of people go.

In St Louis no excuses work... thats how small the pool is.

The pool is huge in Orange County. The judges just get so many stupid yuppies with bad excuses that they're hard-asses with everyone.

We get called in every year or two around here so after a while everyone gets sick of it and throw attitude and make excuses.
I chose a way that isn't contempt of court... even though I have a very real and serious contempt of court.

Last year broke my record thankfully. I was called 8 times in a row from the time I first became eligible, finally missed the 9th time, and haven't been called this year.

Been called once, served once
Two cases: one theft of a flight simulator (yes, really) and the other was receiving a stolen stereo system. Both guilty as hell and I have to admit I rushed the second one because there was serious danger of me missing my honeymoon if it went another day

Never been called. I think my dad was once in his life... maybe we have less trials by jury in Canada?

Freshman year of college. I was summoned. During finals week. I asked if I could push it back to Summer, but they refused. So I spent my spring break waiting to see if I would get called down to the court house. Nothing. Bah. Then I got it again during the first week of school sophmore year. I said screw it and didn't try to move it. Didn't get called in though, so that was cool.

In Texas being in college is an auto-exemption from jury duty, thus I dodged the only time I was called without having to show up at all. Just checked the "college student" box and sent it off.
I've never been called, though I think I'd like to be.
