Falling dolphin injures trainer in Qld

A trainer has been injured on Queensland's Gold Coast by a falling dolphin.

Ambulance officers were called to the Sea World theme park about 3.15pm (AEST) to find a trainer had sustained neck and back injuries after a dolphin fell on him, a Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said

The injuries were minor, the spokeswoman said.

"It's not every day you can say that happened," she said.

In a statement Sea World said a marine mammal trainer incurred a minor soft tissue injury when he was "bumped" by a dolphin doing an aerial manoeuvre in a training session.

The trainer, who was in the pool with the dolphin, was assessed by the Sea World nurse and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, the statement said.

"The trainer will return to work tomorrow," the statement said.

There was no injury to the dolphin.

A Sea World spokeswoman said no further information was available.

see... this is, in a way, a misleading title . Sure it's an uncommon occurance but the man works with dolphins. one has to assume that trainers of dolphins are more likely to sustain dolphin related injuries. If the title of the thread had been Dolphin trainer injured by a dolphin falling on him then I'm not sure it would have had the same .... pop... :D
