At least that cat got up to walk. Mine just laid there as Sing pulled him along.

I have one friend that used to walk her cats. She started it when they were kittens though, so they were more used to it. Still nothing like walking a dog.

Well, we have better luck with the other cat.

Some cats deal with it better than others. I've done alot of cat-sitting and it varies widely depending on how much the cat is used to it. Even the most willing like to walk at their own pace, so it's not like you can ever take a cat along on a jog or some thing! :)

We've tried it with both of ours. They just take two steps, flop on the ground outside, and roll around getting dirty.

A neighbor routinely walks her two cats though.

I've heard the Savannah breed is actually pretty good as far as walking. Those things are very cool looking, too.

I was telling a friend of mine {owner of 4 cats) about this thread. She laughed and said the only thing she found a harness was good for was keeping indoor cats from wandering off and getting hurt when let outside.

This how I walk my cat when I take a mind to it.
I hook the leash to her collar.
I pick her up, go outside, and walk 8 blocks.
I put her down.
She damned near drags me back to the house.
I pick her up when we get to the porch.
I take her inside, and unhook the leash.
Walking the cat is done.

The truth of the matter is that cats are fairly intelligent animals and CAN be trained to do any number of things. The tiger show at the circus? Those are big cats, and are quite trainable. I've seen regular housecats trained to do all kinds of interesting things too. You can even train them to take a walk.

But training a reluctant animal is WORK. Dogs are easier to train because of their pack mentality. They like having somebody in charge, they like pleasing the one in charge, and they enjoy working as a team.

Cats have different motivations and require different training methods. They're not stupid, but they won't do what you want simply because they know you want them to (like a dog will).

My cat will sit and kind of do that sit up and beg trick for treats. She and the dog do that all the time. He will do it without food occasionally though and there is not a chance in hell she will.
