I'm writing a textbook and need ideas on what to talk about re RMS, bel/dB, and associated concepts. I have already covered (and proved) Euler's Theorem - needed it to discuss reactance, impedance, and resonance.

Oddly, I am one. You hit one of us just swinging a cat around.
I've been doing mostly digital stuff though, so... it sounds like your textbook might help me with the analog stuff.
What do you really want to know about? RMS and dB's aren't real hard, they're just... things. Like "blue". Can't you just draw a picture?

Nope. Gotta do the math. I need ideas.

Wow, you hit two with the same cat.
I, however, have forgotten 90% of what I learned in school so I can't help you at all.

You need ideas on which questions to put in the textbook, so that you can make people do the questions and learn?
I hate to say it... but the example equations on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decibel#Amplitude.2C_voltage_and_current) are as good as anything I can suggest off the top of my head.
You could just do something similar and ask "calculate the dB".

I also have to point out that these were by far and away my worst subjects, and only truly sick fucks do this shit for a living.

I thought dB was well explained in my control theory text books. Ogata did one and Dorf & Bishop did the other.
That said, I've never had to use them at work or in school. I just remember reading about it.
