I've been downloading them on iTunes because I liked the pilot and remembered yesterday and began watching them as I had time (yes, watching tv on my iPod is working if I'm at work) and I have to say, I'm pretty damn happy with the series. More than happy.

Yes, I know, the plot lines were crazy (Nip/Tuck ... need I say more?) and you could easily guess just about everything that ended up happening, but it was one of those series, for me, where that didn't matter and it was the journey that was enjoyable. I mean, to illustrate the line they walked between seriousness and black comedy you just have to watch the scene where the Glee club is skirmishing with a competing school's glee club ... a deaf school's glee club. Yeah, that's pretty funny in and of itself, but when they performed together they didn't hesitate to try and make a "moment" out of it, too, and managed to pull off what could have easily been all kinds of horrible, or just plain funny (the lazier way, but would have still been effective, IMO).

So, anyone been watching this series? I know I'm probably behind the times, just having caught up, but the finale was still pretty recent I think. Anyone else looking forward to next season?

I'm a Gleek! I love this show. Last weeks episode was by far the best. The final song was amazing!

That was a beautiful scene. I know people who cried.

I shit you not.

That said -- glee is probably my favourite show right now. And I have to say, I've been dissapointed with the last 6 or so episodes.

Not because they weren't good. They were worth watching. They were good in an "I'm invested and it's paying off, oh look at those kids develop, I rememer high school" kind of way.

But I'm dissapointed because Glee could be, and still might be a landmark in US comeday. ie, something really and truly funnay. Glee laughs at itself, and US culture in general. Something I think the UK has done for 50 years, and something I think is pushing into the mainstream in the US.

There are a lot of comedians that get stuck in to the US culture, and have been doing so for a while. and... it's a fact that plenty of US and UK commediands have made a career out of coming over here and shitting on us (christ we love you Arj Barker).

Hell, maybe there is a lot of internal satire, but we don't see it. Those shows aren't exported. Glee can be that show! I fucking love laughing at the US culture and then being made a part of it by the charachters. (I mean seriously, high school pep rallys? Seriously fucked up. A two year old is shocked and inspired to write a blog after being exposed to the brainwashing going on in those bizzare USAAAOK 1950's anti USSRIFTHEMANINFRONTOFYOUFALLSPICKUPTHEGUNANDFIREIT rallys). Um. So yeah.

Anyway, English comedy has done this for like, 50 years.

Laughing at yourself. It's theraputic. It's good for you. Hell, it's good for politics, it's good for the media. It's good for all of us.

(And you know what, with all that material, the US satirists can be some of the best. Hell I'll say it... the best. Just get 'em front and centre.

"Had my tearducts removed. Wasn't using them".

Gold.

Pure gold.

distracted me, was that Glee could be not only a good time to watch on a tuesday night, but a formative and positive show in US culture.

The last 6 episodes (or so) of the season of (what 12?, 13?) have not been nearly as strong and well aimed as the first 6.

Disappointing.

Back to basics Glee. You can be a brilliant satire about modern cultre.

Or you can be 24 episodes per season for 5 seasons based on the success of the first 6 episodes.

And ultimately forgettable.

Haven't watched Glee but Pigs in Space I would like to point out that large amounts of US comedy is self deprecating at US culture. Perhaps it just doesn't make it to your little desert country.

Dead on. I really liked how sharp the series was out of the gate, if a little to eager to bombard audiences with endless crazy twisting plot lines. I think the series writers are trying to settle it down. Too bad.

Gotta say, I'm a fan. It's one of a handful of shows I make the time to watch.

it's kind of funny how I came to watch the show. I was listining to the /filmcast podcast and they stardted doing The Tobolowsky Files podcast by David Tobolowsky. really good stuff you should give a listen to it and they talked about glee and I thought "heck might as well give it a chance" and I got hooked
