I never thought I'd be one of those people who dressed their dog up but Charley has been so cold with this subzero weather that I finally broke down and bought him a Snuggie. He wasn't happy with it at first as you can see for the pictures and video I have posted below but this morning he seemed much happier and warmer.

Tried getting on for my sisters dog, but it seems that the black/brown weinerdog is normally larger then the all brown weinerdog that they show on the cover of the small dog snuggie, and I can't seem to find a place selling the Medium sized ones to get in place of the small that is too small.
If more dog coats would fasten on the back instead of on the belly it would be easier to get dogs into them.

OMG. I laughed out loud when I saw that. The poor little thing! He looks just lost! I'm sure he'll get used to it. A friend of mine had a portuguese water dog and she used to dress him up in all kinds of absurd costumes: cowboy with chaps, santa claus, etc. He put up with this, I guess because he was so loved and spoiled rotten. I'm sure Charley will do fine and you are keeping his little body warm. He's so cute. BTW, that cat is huge!

I used to put my pom in coats when we would go outside for extended periods. She had plenty of fur so it wasn't like she was cold all the time, but small dogs don't keep in the heat as well.
When I was living in the AFC (adult foster care) home thing I walked to my meetings with staff and med times. These were across the apartment complex and while not a huge distance, it wasn't short especially for a tiny dog.
She liked the coats and knew what they were for. She however hated boots and was not happy about those so we didn't keep that up. Her feet would freeze part way some of the time so I just picked her up and carried her when that was apparent.

I got mine at Rite Aid and they had all the different sizes. I think they even sell them online. Pretty cheat IIRC.

He's not that big but next to Charley everything is big. I have to use the macro setting on my camera just to get a clear picture of him. My cat is 2yrs old and he's 13lbs. Oh and Charley is only 6 inches tall.

Charley was happier with the Snuggie today. He wore it all night and I think he realized that having it on outside was very nice. I love the fact that the velcro is on the back and not under the belly.

I don't think Charley would go for boots either. I've put the barbie doll socks on him before and he got pissed at me. :heh:

In canada, for small dogs these can be necessities... our shih-tzu (see avatar) gets cold easily, so my gf made her a suit out of a snow-suit pantleg.

What kind of wussy-ass dogs do you guys have ? Really ? Most dogs can stay outside all day in the winter and not get cold. They have fur, you know ! ;)

If you look closely in the back ground you will notice I have a non-wussy-ass dog. She's 90lbs and can handle the cold with no problems. This is the first wussy/little man syndrome dog I've ever owned.

Shining! It isnt like she is dressing the dog up in a tutu- the poor thing is shivering.
I am howling with laughter at the idea of a dog in chaps tho.

No. No tutu here. What I meant was the similarity in the long-suffering look of toleration on the dog's face--it reminded me of the same look on my friend's dog who put up with being dressed in theatrical garb and photographed for Halloween or Christmas cards. It's sweet and comical, even though the intention in LF's case is to keep the little dear warm during a cold snap.
There was that Lynda Barry series of poodles with attitudes, though. It would be entertaining to see little Charlie dressed like a Hell's Angel, "I'm mad as hell and not going to take it any more," sort of like Barry's "Poodle with a Mohawk..."

Oh. My. God.
LF, I did explain to you the potential dangers of having a ferocious jungle Chihuahua in your house, didn't I?
Menchi the wonderdog was next to me on the laptop, and he's seen the photos of what you are doing. You're JUST ANTAGONIZING CHARLIE! Menchi is all riled up... and he's climbing... things.
The jungle Chihuahua's live in the canopy of brazillian rainforests, and descend silently en-masse at the scent of blood. They have been reported to skeletonize an entire cow within seconds. For gods sake, if it tries to climb up above eye level - that's genetics kicking in.
Don't piss him off, and then leave him alone with your children.
And for god's sake, get rid of the snuggie. You won't like it when he snaps.
