Hey folks

I discovered a new class of vehicle I didn't know existed!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_truck

40 miles per gallon, great for off-roading, allows you to move stuff around. It's the pickup truck for urbanites. They also have a nifty look to them. They are street legal in Canada, but it's mixed in the States.

Unfortunately, probably due to marketing (I think that Toyota et al think that selling them in North-America would damage their brand) they aren't sold new in North America. You can only by them used - they export them from japan to here (there is a law there that registering old cars is very expensive, so old cars are gotten rid off, but since they still work, they are exported).

My Aunt has one of these on her farm. They are neat little trucks.

I was gonna say, I think the're ok here in oklahoma cuz I've seen them in around.

Then I read on wikipedia

While street legal in Japan, Kei trucks lack proof of conformance with US regulations. Nevertheless they are approved for use on local roads in several rural states, with a variety of limitations on their use.

No way, I've seen one in town,

2008 legislation in OK and LA is the most liberal, prohibiting their use on interstate highways only

Oh ok, not sure I'd drive one though, that whole being up front without anything before me scares me a bit

according to a website:

How fast can these trucks go on the highway?

These trucks will do 90km/h (55mph) or better.

Can they go on the freeway?

Sure - once.
