Real please. Those horrible squirrels are always chomping on my tomatoes and zuchinni in the garden. It's about time someone handed them their walking papers!

Edited for animal cruelty.
Sorry but I am ok with dealing with pests as a necessary evil. I am not ok with glorifying it in slow mo to watch an animal die

Did the squirrel die? How do we know it did not end up in some bower of greenery, or on a nice comfortable pile of mulch? The video does not show the end of its trajectory.

Would you object to bouncing puppies off trees and filming it for our consumption as well? Died or not fucked up is fucked up.

I guess if puppies regularly challenged my source of food, I'd harbor similar animosities as well. How about you substitute rats for squirrels? How would that make you feel? Would it be more or less cruel?

Notice in my earlier post I dont object to getting rid of pests as a necessary evil. There are varying degreed of fucked up. If something needs to die that is lower on the food chain so i can prosper so be it. As the top of the food chain, I realize I dont need to be a giggle douche about it, film it and put it on YouTube

Yeah, I'd probably just set some have a heart traps and cart them off to the local park. One bonked me on the head with an apple one day--it dropped it on the way up a tree. There's nothing quite like planning a dinner with zucchini only to find it gnawed down to a stump. I keep industrial strength cayenne pepper on hand to sprinkle on my vegetables, which usually discourages them. That video is sort of like the splash the children with the car in another thread. I guess if I were to engage in such hijinks, I'd be reluctant to film it for the world to see. Still, in the epic struggle of squirrels versus my vegetable garden, I must admit to a guilty pleasure at the prospect of ejecting them quickly--assuming they weren't cruelly injured or maimed in the process.

Squirrels fall off trees regularly, and survive. Their low body mass and large surface area means their terminal velocity is low. Unless it's being flung at a wall, I would expect it to be uninjured.
:what:
I was also trying to set up some Nutkin jokes, but well, that won't happen now.

I once saw a squirrel leap for a branch, miss it, fall to the pavement below (about 8 feet) and get knocked out cold. I stood like an idiot on my porch yelling, "are you alright?" not sure if I should risk attempting first aid and getting bitten. The squirrel gradually came to and groggily stumbled off into the bushes.

I support Brynja's decision: I really am happy that this site refuses to show animal cruelty, because it is the one thing that will really make me sick (VK this is not a challenge!); and I am glad that she erred on the side of caution.

It's extra grainy, but it seemed to me that it was sent right right on the tree.
The people who did that are definitely assholes. I understand using traps, fences or other system to protect your garden from hungry wilderness critters. But this is doing it "for the lulz" and as such doesn't fall into the "utilitarian" category but in the "animal cruelty" category. And so, they're assholes.

I'm glad I missed it. This is not anything I would appreciate. It just isn't an activity that I want to have any part in, including the gawking on the internet and increasing their counts.
No offense Ancalagon, I just really wouldn't want to see it and I have a bad habit of clicking everything that is before me so I have thanks for the removal.
