It was peer pressure, 100%. Everybody I know is on it... and they all know things about each other before I do because they assume everybody who really cares is their Facebook friend... OK that's not true at all. Emerald is on it and I feel left out that she's playing games I can't play. That's the truth.

You can be my Facebook friends if you want. Yay.

Was it painful? Or did you like it a little?

he seemed grumpy about it when I was over there. "facebook would be great without all the people." yes, that's a direct quote.

I agree with him. Of course my facebook is hamstrung by having work colleagues on it requiring I be tight lipped about my personal life.

ditto that. I dare not post a facebook status along the lines of "is surrounded by mouth-breathing imbeciles" or "wonders if the idiocy is endemic?" ... sigh.

That, and... I used the word "fuck" on Facebook sometime in July or August, and I still get comments from people who went to my childhood church. I like what FB brings, which is contact with far flung friends and people I haven't seen in decades. The fact that everyone seems to be on it now. The downside is.... everyone seems to be on it now.

You know you can set people into certain groups and limit what they see on your Facebook right?

Harry

Yes. But I have kept everything pretty much in plain view, just in case some of my old friends, flames, or what are lurking about. Oddly enough, tonight I've occasionally typed some names into FB Search that I haven't looked for since I joined, and found some surprising names from my past.

This one speaks of great wisdom! I knew this not. I will embark upon a quest inspired by your words, enlightening Lady.

I keep only family and friends on my FB. I tell people I work with that I just don't want to put them on my FB page, because I want to keep my personal life and my professional life separate, and everyone has been cool with that.

I don't bother to set up separate groups myself but I have several friends that do. I thought about caring what co-workers would think for awhile, then I remembered that we are all required to be nuts to work there anyhow.

But frankly I keep the worst parts of my personal life off of status messages. I don't need to air my dirty laundry in that manner. If I want people to know what is going on I tell them more directly.

When I have seen people posting certain things on there I just wince and wonder why bring on the maelstrom that will commence.

Ack. Now I have a bunch of friends, and since all of them are already friends with the Kay folks I know, I can only assume the rest of them are even more Kay folks.

But I don't know who you are. It's weird. Like I know 2 versions of you. So if you wouldn't mind responding to my facebook thingie where I'm asking what your Kay name is...

Schizm

you could just join the kaytastrophe cadets group and view the discussion thread that links username to real name....

But then I'd have to figure out what groups are.

Tell me your name, and I'll friend you! Btw, who the hell is this Meral Schpleepman person who I apparently know from somewhere???

Etc btw... a day ago I was befriended by an old flame, one of the very few who I still have a torch for after all these [my god 20!] years. It's got me all melancholy and blue. I know, people move on and twenty years is a long time, but she still seems the same in every way. She's emailed me several times now. Hard to believe, but when I was 18 or 19, she bugged the heck out of me - I was OVER the little girls who kept following me around, nipping at my heels and getting all gooshy over me, and damn it, she was just another 17 year old kid! I actually ended up dating her on and off, but when she left to go to school in Chapel Hill we completely lost touch.

Man, the old days.... never could have believed it could be like this someday, where you can just plug into the world wide web and say "howdy" to long lost friends.

Except for this Marik Speelmange whatever!

I totally forgot that his username was his real name that spawned his new username. It was fun to unwrap in my head.

Yes, I too want to know who that odd name belongs to. Meryl Schlepfest or whatever. My memory fails me. Someone suggested them to me to befriend. Mostly what's great about Facebook is the occasional direct chats I have with friends who are halfway across the world. That's really helpful. Also, I'm back in touch with old buddies. Some of my "friends" (acquaintances) are so intent on telling the minutiae of their lives I've had to take them off the live feed (I really get tired of hearing that they've scratched their left earlobe every 30 seconds...).

You all are cracking me up. :win: I suppose I'm one of the few who knows who Merak is without any explanation. And if anyone doesn't know my real now by now I'd be a bit shocked considering for a long while there that's all anyone addressed me as on some of the boards.
