Taking a page from Glass's book here:

Okay, I get that you were an abused wife. I applaud your getting out of the marriage before you or your kids were seriously hurt, and I applaud you doing it without leaving a curling iron up his ass.

I also applaud that you're fighting hard for your fair share of things and not letting him snake you out of what you're due.

But do you have to be constantly on the fucking office phone blathering to people about restraining orders, why you missed bank payments, fighting over how to cancel insurance coverage, and god knows what else? Does it really have to be done in the fucking office every single goddamn day, loud enough to be heard verbatim four cubes away? Don't you have any fucking work to do? You know, do work at work, and home shit at home? At least if you're gonna waste time, do it quietly like me.

Can you not restrain your weepy overwrought calls to your kids to off-hours? Can you not show the slightest fucking respect for your co-workers by not subjecting them to months and months of your goddamn blathering? Is it really necessary to continue your bullshit even when I'm having meetings with vendors in my fucking cube and everyone around is learning the intimate secrets of your life?

Jesus fucking christ, I'm a nice guy in real life and it makes *me* want to empathize with the bastard that beat you.

The next time she does that, you barge in her cubicle and shout "you bitch, you shut the fuck up or I'll send you back crying to your abusive ex!"

You could try a joke to cheer her up...

"What do you say to a woman with two black eyes?"

Answ: Nothing you already told her twice.

Yeah, but my Sis-in-law's whiny nurse/attendant who ruined a wedding we were paying her to watch SIL at by continuously sobbing over her cheating boyfriend and how she can't get no decent men, while drinking herself into a stupor and hitting on every male in sight including the groom... I don't think she's into chicks.

PWD: young man , you have my sympathy and my empathy.

I really do understand--cause i work at the Family Owned insurance company and am related to all these people and my loser-magnet, 9 mo pg daughter is the accountant.

the only thing i can suggest, and this is probably both illegal & unethical, is to record all the drama to document the problem, copy it, politely leave one on her desk with a polite note re: BE QUIET, I am WORKING., give it a bit, see if things settle at all, if not--give copy #2 to supervisor, personnel mgr whover handles these things for you. make a point of indicating that these incidents have occured when salespeople, suppliers, customers, visitors--whover--have been present: its an image issue then, not just courtesy.
Be sure to keep a copy for yourself should things get ugly.

good luck.

Just call into the receptionists desk and ask for her every time she's on the phone with that stuff. Then when she gets on the line just hang up.

I was going to say mention it in passing to your boss and let them take it from there.

Her boss (not my manager) sits closer to her than I do. He's gotta know, so either he's patently ignoring it, or he's been told by HR that he can't do shit due to some fucked-up workplace equity or whatever. Is getting divorced considered a disability these days? Yeesh.

Fuck that, if someone can't do the job and is disruptive, can their ass faster than they can notice what happened.

And this is in a non-unionized shop, before any of that starts up.

Check the stats on this, i may be remembering wrong, but people going thru divorce are disasters looking for a place to happen. Dramatic increases in car accidents i know fm work, personal injury and so on. The numbers indicate that a person is just about useless for about 2 years ( inc. time before & after) It may be your manager is trying to be "understanding" or one of those guys who are dramaticaly affected by a womans tears---some guys CANNOT cope withupset women--JAVA has a boss that is terrified of womans issues---mention "cramps" and he disappears--and excuses anything from tardiness to attempted murder.

She's been at this for over eight months now. I suppose that means sixteen more to go.

my gf has a guy sitting 1 cube away who calls his relatives in India, AND SPEAKS TO THEM VERY LOUDLY, in his native language. He also is a hypochondriac and makes all kinds of throat clearing, coughing, phlegm, sounds you can name.

My wife's best friend has one of those too. Exactly the same, to the T.

I would report it to HR as hostile work environment since it is distraction from your work. Let them be the bad guys- thats what their there for.
