I thought Clooney was remarkably restrained and gracious given what a doofus the reporter was. If Clooney had been an actress and the guy had done the same thing, what reaction would have been appropriate?

Well your right, and while I agree it could have been alot worse, I just kept thinking to myself threw the whole thing, "that's really passive agreesively cruel"

Clooney was in a public forum, apparently pushing his latest movie and some guy, under the pretense of asking him a question related to the topic at hand, tears off his clothes and pronounces love for him. What a jerk.

I remember in college, some guy who had been masquerading as a platonic friend, took it upon himself to march up to me in the middle of a crowd of people at a bar one night and announce, quite out of the blue, that he was in love with me. I was furious. He put me on the spot and I didn't appreciate it. The feelings were not reciprocated, but he put me in a position where it was hard to respond without looking like a total bitch. I said something detached to the effect that I was not interested, thank you very much. What a creep. So I guess I sympathize with Clooney because I've had similar experiences, except this reporter was a total stranger, so it was even more inappropriate. Taking off his clothes was beyond the pale. That, to me, was passive aggressive behavior.

I wonder how many of the creative wedding proposals are something similar - a guy afraid she'll say no, so arranging a circumstance where she probably won't bring herself to do so. There was one televised one where the guy led his girlfriend into the center of a basketball court and proposed in front of all the spectators. She just stood there dumbstruck until she burst into tears and fled.

Yeah, there seems to be a rash of wedding proposals on reality shows. Even Jerry Springer has gotten into the act of impromptu weddings, usually performed by a stoner reverend often interrupted by a hail of blows from a rejected 3rd party who has difficulty adjusting to the new situation. I do watch Jerry Springer when I feel like napping. There's something calming about all that conflict. ;)
