View Full Version : NAMBLA in Ottawa

Last Sunday was the pride parade in Ottawa, and I decided go to see (some friends asked me to walk with them, but erm, I don't think I'm ready for that, especially considering how the media loves to take footage of the people in the interesting outfits). So I'm watching on the side of the street (LOTS of people, about 800 in the parade, 20 000 spectators) and see the parade going round the corner and coming towards us. On the side walk are a few people who seem to be "walking in parallel" with the parade. These are individuals walkers (ie not a group), some odd looking, some perfectly ordinary.
One of them did catch my eye though... a mulscular man, wearing black pants, a black hat and a black T-shirt, with the big white letters NAMBLA on it (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nambla).
It takes a lot to shock me, but well, I was flabergasted. I wasn't sure what do do - while punching him in the face or throwing something heavy seemed like a good idea on a gut level, I didn't think that starting a fight at the pride parade would be good, so I just gave him a dirty look instead - which he insolently smiled back at, and he walked by pass.
This kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about this or not...

please forgive me but i have to be a bit snarky here: what about his freedom of thought/speech? just because hes wearing a shirt doesnt mean he has commited a crime, doesnt he have a right to express himself,....the same arguments apply as re the mclellan thread.
ok; venom expelled. seriously, you did the right thing not to start confrontation: the asshole was looking to upset people, cause problems, generate publicity in a negative way and unfortunatley link two entirely separate issues.
you cant do much about that individual--but you can become politically active on the issue. you can educate yourself, and bear witness to anyone who will slow down long enough to listen.
http://www.warriorsforinnocence.org/ is a very powerful group right now--they are , well, extreme in their viewpoints, but their site has a lot of information and links. you can use the info they provide without necessarily agreeing with them.
my brother is just now at 40 beginning to come out--it still takes a lot of courage to be 'different" especially in red neck territory. they need all the support they can get, and i am glad to hear the parade in your area went so well. he is a dear sweet gentle man, and would never harm a child, and is horified by the thought of the NAMBLA organization--but unfortunatly ignorance and prejudice often lump all it together.
education, some wise woman said, is our best, our only weapon against the ignorant.

Goddamned filthy Peds.
You could always contact the parade organizers and tell them about NAMBLAs presence. Pride is one thing, filthy Peds are another. If they're wise, they won't want their event dirtied by the presence of the NAMBLA members.

No. He doesn't. Not without expecting people to "express" back.

NAMBLA openly advocates illegal acts, and ones that are amongst the most vile known. It's not quite the same as a pothead wearing a "Legalize It" shirt. A fellow wearing a NAMBLA shirt has every reason to be curb stomped.

Indeed. Just because some shitface is free to spew his crap doesn't mean he is free from getting that crap fed back to him.
In this case, that crap is endorsing something that inflicts harm on a minor. Son of a bitch can eat a bullet for all I care.
To put it in a different context, you have the right to not like black folk. You even have the right to say blacks are inherently inferior to whites or that they are less evolved. You're a fuckhead, but that's your right.
As soon as you participate in a rally/march calling for the whipping of black servants, you've crossed the line. I suppose you could argue otherwise, but to even insinuate that there is something wrong with me thinking the bastard is less than human is fucking stupid and paints a very poor picture of the person making that insinuation.

I would never do that. Unimaginable! My black servants get only the best of treatment from me.

Nobody said anything about it being wrong for Ancalagon to hate NAMBLA and its members and advocates. They just said that he was right not to assault the guy.

To be honest, it is highly unlikely I would have punched since I'm not a violent person and he would have kicked my ass unless I clobbered him from behind.
I'm going to bounce the idea around to a few local friends before raising the issue, but mentioning it to the organizers is not a bad idea.
Cheers,

Just imagine the negative publicity they'd suffer if NAMBLA decided to show up with multiple members, and through advertising their presence make sure that their name is then linked with the parade. That would be a kick in the junk to the gay rights movement.

You say in an hypothetic tone as if it's never happened before.
In fact, it's commonly the case. And I'm pretty sure the organizers know they were there and are probably somewhat upset about it, but what are they gonna do ?

Be proactive. Put the word out in the community that these filth are out there, and they're using Pride as an excuse to crawl out from under the rocks and tarnish the event.

My first response would be to snap a picture of him on my cameraphone and plaster it all over the internet and around the local community. I mean, it's not defaming him, he's proud to be a pedophile.

When I saw you were the last poster, I wondered if you were asking for the guy's pic to use as an avatar. :p

Methinks that VK would only be interested in that avatar so long as the picture was taken in some hospital's emergency room.

KoS: that's a good question, but I don't think he was brazen enough for it.

See, I have a hard time thinking the guy was a true NAMBLA supporter and did not get ousted by the pride people.
Of course, there is the possibility that the pride people support his idea of legally trying to change a law.

It would have been very easy for him to do this and not be seen by the people in the parade. There is the road, where the people are parading, whatever that happens to be for them (dancing walking chanting whatever). Then on the side of the road there is a lot of people watching, waving etc. Then there is the sidewalk - since it's on a main street, it's almost 10 feet away from the road, and that's where he's walking - he's paralelling the parade, he's not in it. The people in the parade would have to see past the 2-3 thick crowd to see him, and they would only see his side probably and not the front of his t-shirt, where the logo is.

The way I see it, he's taking advantage of the parade as a form of "protection". I'm not sure he would have the guts to walk like that alone.

i was thinking the same thing. better yet, he may not even be associated with NAMBLA, but just some asshole trying to piss people off in general. :)

That would be lovely. That knowledge would make my day.I'd hate to get the assignment of working on that project though.
It reminds me of reading about an April 15th event** thrown by the michigan militia where they were rather annoyed at the white power morons who showed up. (they escorted them off the property) Always annoying when the insane wacko fringe shows up trying to give you a bad name.***
**$5 a shot to shoot at copies of the tax code with a .50 rifle :D I'd love to have known about and gone to give it a try.
***Not to imply that it's a direct paralel, it's just what came to mind, also not to imply that I'm a huge fan of the MI Militia, haven't bothered to check up enough to know if I like their gig one way or another, and I'm also totally not interested in flirting with them:p

Yeah, I've heard about the therapy that cops on the Ped squad have to go through. The trauma rate on the job is sky-high. You couldn't pay me enough to do that job -- I'd melt down in a week. The restraint and dedication of those people is amazing.

Either NAMBLA or that other one, Rene somethingorother ... basically the Feds ran a simple sting, since it was illegal to have kiddie porn they just setup a maildrop, wait for random idiot to order his membership and magazines, send himm his crap, watch the mailbox, arrest the idiot when he got his packages back to his house
I doubt that they do this anymore though.
