last week we had to rescue 3 swan cygnets...they were only hours old...a stupid guy who was fishing wasnt too happy that the swan and cygnets was in his way so he decided to chase the swans off...unfortunatly the cygnets didnt get out his way so he took them out of the water....stupid....anyway, someone came over and told us what had happened and we went over to collect them then phoned our wildlife trust....

the cygnets are safe now but it was sad...

myself with a little cygnet wrapped up in a towel trying to calm it down.

What beautiful little birds. My parakeet has such amazingly soft feathers and she's so tiny and fragile in my hands. I can imagine what those little baby birds must have felt like when you held them.
How cruel of that fisherman to chase off their mothers. I'm glad they will be safe now. You did a good thing, Linda.

were we sail we always have something going on....between last week and sunday past we have had 7 rescues.....one unfortunately didnt make it as it was pretty weak by the time we got it....we watch for this specific guy that fishes to make sure that it doesn't happen again, so far he has just walked around but he knows that he is being watched.

That's amazing. It's good that those little birds have someone to watch their backs! I'm sure your being there regularly has done alot to help keep their population level steady.

let me introduce you to miss jemima duck....she is a cheeky wee thing...we found that if you shouted her name she would come over to you to get fed...we always had to make sure that no one else heard us shouting on her..

before she came to the dam she was found outside our medical centre trying to get in and then she came up to the dam....she is a farmyard duck....she did quite well on the dam with the other ducks and could be heard for miles first thing in the morning with her low deep quack...lol

I'll bet the other ducks sit around and bitch about her all the time. Probably call her unkind names. For some reason, the thought of a barnyard duck mixing it up with wild ones absolutely hilarious. :)

You are failing to discourage my urge to visit Scotland.

That early morning shot was just beautiful. How funny that Jemima has a wild mallard mate. It's terrible that kids would stone a duck to death. They can be so cruel.

Those cygnets are really fluffy.

My local population of geese was so terribly cute when they first appeared, but they are getting tiresome now. And they are always trying to drive off our mallards who are reasonably good neighbors most of the time.

When they get out of hand, the geese, I look at them and think of them as pathetic, failed, midget dinosaurs and I mock them quite horribly. I do believe it hurts their feelings when I dare them to come at me with their claws and teeth.

our swans get on alright with the ducks on the dam as long as they dont go too near the cygnets, like anything they will only attack if they feel that the cygnets are in any danger.....

You must have an excellent camera, Lindaw. Some of those pictures are really fantastic close-ups.
