Pepper is one of my favorite songs and Tapeworm Saloon is just a fun album.

I've been listening to Bananaphone on and off all day and my fellow employees are loving it... they really are.

Allow me to tell a story about the Butthole Surfers.
Once upon a time I went to pick up my mother from work. I was listening to Butthole Surfers so when we get into the car and I start it up they come out the speaker.
"What is wrong with your speakers, are they broken?" asks my mother as the music starts.
"Nope it is supposed to sound like that." I answer
"Are you sure? It sounds like your speakers are broken."
I turn off the music, "Yes I'm sure."

Man, The Descendants rock. One of my all time pop punk favorites. They've gotten a lot shit over the years from whipper snappers trying to decry their punk "cred", but they have always made my head bop up and down.

Met Stephen Edgerton on several occasions. First time I met him, he sloped drunkenly into my office, pushed me out of my chair, sat down, put his feet on my desk, and let out a long, well thought out fart that rattled the ceiling tiles.

I had to count in my head but I think I've seen them 11 times over the years.

Club 367 was always my favorite venue to catch them at as the drunkin Landing idiots never went there but the fans did.

Camper has been, well, camped upon my personal list of favorite albums of the modern rock era since, well, Key Lime came out. Depending on my mood, it's usually in the top three.

But tonight, I'm still listening to some Marshall Tucker Band. I get stuck in ruts like this. It could go on for weeks... At least it's the MTB. Could be worse. I could be in another Tasmin Archer mood.

Heather Alexander's Midsummer with March of Cambreath on repeat :)

March of Cambreadth

Words and Music © Heather Alexander
All Rights Reserved- Lyrics posted with permission of the author

Axes flash, broadsword swing,
Shining armour's piercing ring
Horses run with polished shield,
Fight Those Bastards till They Yield
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Follow orders as you're told,
Make Their Yellow Blood Run Cold
Fight until you die or drop,
A Force Like Ours is Hard to Stop
Close your mind to stress and pain,
Fight till You're No Longer Sane
Let not one damn cur pass by,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Guard your women and children well,
Send These Bastards Back to Hell
We'll teach them the ways of war,
They Won't Come Here Any More
Use your shield and use your head,
Fight till Every One is Dead
Raise the flag up to the sky,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Dawn has broke, the time has come,
Move Your Feet to a Marching Drum
We'll win the war and pay the toll,
We'll Fight as One in Heart and Soul
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

(repeat first verse)

I've always kinda liked ? & The Mysterians, in concept if nothing else. The one song they are famous for, "96 Tears", is odd but enjoyable. Wouldn't want to listen to it forever, though.

However, looking for it on the Youtube, I found this 1998 remake, by the original band. I know, they've had forty years to practice it, but damn, this version slays the original while being very close to it at the same time:

God sometimes you just don't come through
God sometimes you just don't come through
Do you need a woman to look after you
God sometimes you just don't come through

You make pretty daisies pretty daisies love
I gotta find what you're doing about things here
a few witches burning gets a little toasty here
I gotta find why you always go when the wind blows
tell me you're crazy maybe then I'll understand
you got your 9 iron in the back seat just in case
heard you've gone south well babe you love your new 4 wheel
I gotta find why you always go when the wind blows

[give not thy strength unto women
nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings]

Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky fall
will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky

God sometimes you just don't come through

I tend to hang on to a record and play it on and on and on, usually in my car, when it's really good. And right now, something finally came along to displace the Liam Finn record from it's semi-permanent slot. The new Pete Holsapple/Chris Stamey [Dbs] record, Here and Now. It's simply incredible, if you are into that older folky style of pure pop. The songs are sticking in my head and I hear them over and over even when I have other songs in the background. That good.

Sadly, no videos yet.

No, just guitar, drums, and bass; I'm not in the band yet, although I'm hopeful after rocking the audition today and getting a good response and a good rapport with the guys. We actually ended up not doing that song, because I wasn't sure that I'd had enough time to get it down and they were cool with a variety of other songs.

That being said, if I get into the band, and if we end up playing that, I'll try to get it on video and put it up here. So many ifs in that sentence. :D

Good luck with the audition. It's a great song, although the guitar parts are pretty challenging!

It's Pete Escovedo's birthday. He's the legendary Mexican American percussionist who was born back in 1935. Here he is playing timbales with the late great Tito Puente's orchestra. Escovedo is the grey haired guy with the sticks. His daughter is also a drummer. She goes by the name Sheila E, and used to play with Prince, back in the day.

Ran Kan Kan is a great song with irresistible drums and great horn sections.

The son of a friend of mine just joined this band as a bass player. He's one hell of a guitarist, but he is tickled to have a new gig. Just left on tour with them.

You don't strike me as the kind person who'd listen to Miley. Glad I'm not the only one. But I have 3 daughters that I can use as an excuse plus the fact that I met Miley and she's a good kid.
