I want to go off on a mother on my pregnancy/parenting board. she has decided that she is not going to vaccinate her daughter. She does not think she is at risk for anything. I hate when people do this because they put all other kids at risk. I know we have talked about this before on here. I just get so upset when people do stupid stuff with their kids. delaying is one thing but not doing it at all is another.

Why don't you go off on the dumbass?

Because i am a moderator on that board and i would be kicked off for going after someone. it is suppose to be a support board

Does support really mean supporting the decision to endanger children?

Delaying vaccine is only slightly better. Whooping cough as an example. It is estimated that a two week delay kills an extra 2 children a year.

What's the point in moderating a board but not being able to voice an opinion?

Yes, delaying sometimes hurts but it is better than not at all.
And Limper - on the parenting board it is all about respecting the parent's right to choose what is best for their child. She says her ped is supporting her on her choice not to vaccinate.

Respecting the parent's right to choose what is best for their child isn't respecting the parent's right to hurt the child. :)

Get the name of the Ped so it can be known that they are willfully endangering children and enabling idiots to endanger society.
Personally I think you'd be doing a better job of moderating if you blasted her with data on how fucking wrong she is.
Whats best for your child stops at what endangers mine and others. Her rights do not supercede those of society.

Wasn't there recently an outbreak because of non-vaccinations? You could do the passive-aggressive thing and post articles like that in other threads.
(for the record, Emerald and I were never non-vaccinators, we were "alternative schedule vaccinators" with the supervision of our pediatrition. We didn't like the multiple vaccine cocktails because if there was a reaction, it would be a pain figuring out exactly what caused it. We've recently given up on that mainly because the paperwork is a pain - any sort of alternate schedule and you have to file conscientious objector paperwork that makes it look like you're not vaccinating at all. And you have to renew it frequently. So we've been doing big family "catch up" trips to the doctor to get everybody where they're supposed to be en masse. Two interesting factoids: the next one is this very morning, and my son is a total wuss. Last time he limped for 2 days, it hurt so bad.)

I actually just thought of something. if you do not vaccinate your child can you put them into places like daycare and school? I mean without having to take them out if a kid has the chicken pox? I know that when owen was in daycare we had to have an updated vaccination sheet signed by our doctors.

I believe if they lie and say it's against their religion, they can get an exemption.

In NM it isn't well known, but you need up-to-date vaccination records OR an up-to-date conscientious objector form. And they're legally not allowed to lecture or hassle you if you have the form. They want to make sure that, whatever you're doing, you're making a conscious decision and that the government is aware of that decision.

Varaj - it is interesting to hear your side due to the "link" to autism. Do you believe that exists?

The link to autism is retarded.
"We started vaccinating more kids around the same time diagnosis for autism increased." That's what it boils down to.

Yeah, fucking stupid.

What Spikeyfreak said but with lots more anger at fucking retarded mouth breathing idiots that don't understand basic science and a lot more anger for the people that kill kids* based off crap science.
*Not vaccinating/vaccinating late kills children.
Respecting their right to choose != Holding back scorn and derision and avoiding hitting them with science to show them how wrong they are. Granted, as moderator perhaps you want to hold back on the scorn a bit, but the science... hit her with it hard.
They can still make the wrong choice, that's their right. You're under no obligation to let her ignorance pass by unchecked.

She is saying that she has done her research and weighted her son's risk of getting those diseases against him needing the vaccination.
Someone else pretty much said that she was stupid for doing it.

She hasn't done the research* or is too stupid to realize what she is reading.
*Reading anti-vaccination sites does not count as research.

I stopped frequenting parenting boards because I wanted to go off on some of those women so many times that it drove me nuts thinking about it. I really think there should be some sort of certification people should be required to get before they are allowed to breed. :grey: It's one thing to endanger your own child but when you also put my child at risk is when I tend to go "grizzly bear momma" on your ass.

As long as it can't be traced to Dawnstar-moderator's account directly (e.g. different IP) it wouldn't cause a problem as long as the alt won't give reason to be investigated upon of course :).
