View Full Version : So... do you own a gun?

It seems to me, that despite Hollywood's (and the hippy liberal media's) best attempts, that Americans are not quite as murderous and gun crazy as I would have thought.

Example: I have met many Americans, and not one of them has carjacked me.

Sometimes, I have even had my rental car keys on me.

So... am I wrong, or should I take the more sensible approach, and assume I am emitting "foreigner" waves, which cause folks to "crotchify" or otherwise hide their instruments of death?

I own multiple guns. I own antiques, defense device, hunting devices and family heirlooms.

I never carry a gun with me unless I am going to use it (hunting target shooting) and treat them with the great respect and awe they deserve.

In Billy Crystal movies he almost always references how at a certain age fathers and sons can only talk baseball. My dad took me target shooting (how far from a Coke can can you get and still hit it?) and we watched Jeopardy. Both have served me well.

Where is "We don't have a written constitution, it's illegal to own a gun and I don't own a gun. Although an 11 year old was shot dead by a teenager, near here just the other day." option?

I have owned a gun, but not currently. I used to have a Marlin 12 gauge pump that was a really beautiful gun. I eventually sold it to my father when I moved.

Aren't you English?

Don't you guys have a constitution or similar document? I am surprised, you should start your own thread about this. I was unaware...

I have a slew of guns. Some that have been in my family for over a hundred years. I sometimes carry one with me on trips especially to Houston.

Nope no guns here. But I do have a friend that just past her concealed weapons test and now is licensed to carry a concealed gun if she wants.

Greetings!

Oh yes. Guns are very cool. I voted "It's in the Constitution Son!":D
It's a lot of fun to go hunting, as well as target shooting with my friends. We often go to a local range to keep our marksmanship and weapon skills *sharp*.;) I also firmly believe that it is a right as an American citizen to own firearms. I do not merely own them for hunting, or "sporting", or "collecting". I also own them to protect myself from thugs, scum, and barbarians, as well as embracing the duty of contributing to the collective duty to form some kind of check against tyranny. After all, Thomas Jefferson himself said that it was good for every American to be armed--precisely because the government could never fully be trusted, and an armed citizenry served as a deterent to tyranny. Historically, the first thing that tyrannical governments always do--from the Middle Ages to the present day--is outlaw, ban, restrict and criminalize the common people owning and possessing firearms. Thus, I embrace my duty and enjoy my rights as a citizen of the United States of America.

I am always prepared for any kind of situation.;)
Here are some of my guns, with notes.

Nope. England has no written constitution. Or, to be more precise, it has several ordinary Acts of Parliament that serve the function of a constitution (e.g. the Human Rights Act, the Act of Settlement, the franchise act that changed the role of the House of Lords, etc), but all of them can be easily changed by the politicians just like any other Act of Parliament.

You may also be surprised to know that the six Australian States (unlike the Territories and the Commonwealth) are in the same position.

I own multiple guns. Owned and used responsibly they are a tool like any other.

Yes, but I haven't shot anyone in a really long time. It is 3000 miles away in a gun locker, which does interfere with the whole self-defense scenario.

When I was a kid, I got a .22 rifle for my birthday. I was only allowed to use it after I'd taken and passed a gun safety course and then only under controlled circumstances. Otherwise it was in my parents' possession.

Since then, I've not actually owned a gun. To be clear on that, it's not been because I'm against ownership of guns, but because I've just never bothered getting one.

Now I know whose homes to ransack. Hehehehe.

Seriously, though, I believe in gun ownership but I have no gun and likely will never have one. Though, I have considered trying to find NRA stickers for my car and home.

I have a black-powder rifle that belonged to my father. My brother took the other four or five rifles and shotguns. I got the black powder and the antique ice chest.

I don't own any ammunition, though.

I've got four.

Two .22 caliber pistols
.22 caliber rifle
and my grandfathers service rifle, a .303 Enfield

My fav is the Enfield. My wife wont touch it and is damn good with either .22 rifle or pistol.

I'm in the same boat. Where I differ from Hatter (and probably the lot of ya'll) is that I think that somewhere around 99.999-repeating % of humanity isn't responsible and trustworthy enough to let them have one of those plastic knives that come in children's play sets, let alone a device capable of shooting lead projectiles at several hundred miles per hour.

living "up north" as i do guns are almost standard issue around here: most people hunt ( schools system is closed for at least first day of deer season.)
agree w/ pwd --they are, unto themselves, simply objects---but must agree with lucita--just cause they have em doesnt mean they are sensible or responsible with them. and really who wants ME owning a gun?

Yup. I've owned a shotgun since I was ten. I actually got that before I got a BB gun.

Since I don't hunt and I trust my tomahawk more for home protection, I don't actually own any ammo, nor have I bothered to buy any firearms in my adult life. Still, I grew up with a father with a shitload of firearms of various types and with a big enough back yard (aka farmland) that I could just go outside and shoot shit whenever I felt like it, so I'm pretty comfortable around them.

Financial issues/other financial priorities mean that I have not yet bought a gun.

I took a conceal and carry class with a friend with the intention of getting a handgun and carrying it around with me. Life interjected, as it is want to do, and a few things came up preventing me from making the time to get fingerprinted. The whole project slowly drifted down the priority scale until here I am with no gun, no license, and out $150. Perhaps when my move is all done...

Well, as long as folks are posting pics..

My main gun is: http://world.guns.ru/handguns/sw686.jpg

This, with custom Hogue grips and ManHunter sights is what I hunt with and what I would think I would defend life and limb with.

* oh, and for the record I haven't added my answer to the list because I don't see one I agree with. I do not believe the constitution guarantees me the right to arms. It says "In order to maintain a well-regulated militia..." and I don't get a haircut, march in line and train in defense of my homeland. :)

I don't believe I have touched a firearm since I finished my military service over 10 years ago. The one I used in the military was an AK-5, which is a slightly modified version of the FN-FNC, a belgian 5.56mm assault rifle (I think the main difference is that the AK-5 has a full auto mode and the original has a 3-round burst mode).

I don't own a gun, but I helped Anna transport a number of firearms out of California. Amongst her arsenal were a large number of hunting rifles and handguns, but two that caught my eye:

The AK-74- shorter than it's AK-47 cousin, this rifle (almost a carbine, really) is quite nice. Never got to fire it, but it's got excellent point and fire capabilities.

Mac-11- I don't know where she got this bad-boy from, but it's an insane design. Again, I never got to fire it, but it must be a wrist-breaker to fire.

I have never and don't currently own a gun.

They interest me, and I may want one some day, but it's just not practical or necessary.

I'd like to point out that most of the people who own them probably live out in the boonies somewhere. :p

Living near those Illinois ones its pretty funny that they seperate them like that. Washington Park is a subburb of East St Louis and home to the regions nastiest hookers and strip clubs that have fat, one eyed, drug addicts dancing on peg legs on tables.

The Red Garter was the hell hole we took all the newly 21's to... funny shit to see if we could get them drunk enough that they hit on the dancers.

We were of course nice enough not to let them fuck their new hot lady friends.

Yeah I don't know how they split them up. On a side note, Compton, CA is the most dangerous city of those under 99,000 population.
