I had an interview with two folks who have some pretty ambitious projects. They're looking for a fast, competent editor to help them out with two different films.
One is a three minute short for the Santa Fe New Mexican's 3 Minute Film Fest. Obviously, it would be completed first and on a pretty fast schedule.
The other is a feature length narrative shot using a 4K color RED cam. RED CAM! I'm drooling already. That thing looks like it will be all kinds of fun to work with! 4K color is higher quality than you can get with actual film, so the footage can potentially be super-rich and have all kinds of amazing depth. I really, really hope I get the job!
I'm actually pretty confident. We had a nice introduction and I like the producers, and I feel that I gave a pretty good accounting of myself. They asked me a couple technical questions which I fielded reasonably well-- how do you do variable speed time remapping in Final Cut Pro, and can you do it in Motion? Oddly enough, I knew the process of setting a project up for it but I forgot how to access the time remap tool directly. (I remembered later- sss key access the keyboard shortcut, or you can pick time remap directly from the slip button bar in the tool panel.)
They could tell I knew how to do it, though, because their follow up questions were all about technical process and window layout in Final Cut. FINALLY! I feel like those classes I've been taking weren't just me chasing a dream. My technical knowledge is far greater than my body of work, but it may just pan out for me this time. I've actually done a reasonable amount of editing, enough to legitimately market myself as a beginning editor and not a trainee.
For the curious, some of my work is here:

I've done some other work for people, but I'm not able to post it.
I don't know if I'm going to get this job or not, but I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere. I've gotten pretty torn up about my prospects in this industry in the past, and the whole market crash hasn't helped anything. A little positive response goes a long way towards restoring my confidence.
