So I go into work this morning and my supervisor is there and she says that she hurt her back over the weekend and as soon as she can find a substitute she is going home. I tell her good for you, if you are hurt then you need to rest and get better.

Not an hour later I am picking up a baby and I feel a sharp pain in my upper back. I put down the baby and am tearing up at the pain. I take a few deep breaths and the pain subsides. I decide I just turned wrong. But over the next hour I notice that anytime I move to quickly or in certain ways I get that sharp pain again and then there starts to be a dull ache in the area.

Unsure what to do, I decide that I will go to urgent care after work if it doesnt feel better, and I tell my supervisor so that if is ends up being something it will be documented that I reported it.

Well, instead she sends me to employee health, I get her substitute and now I am at home and she is still limping around at work. I feel absolutlely awful. She definately needed the day off more that I do. Should I call and check on her and appoligize or would that be rubbing in the fact that I am home and she is not? I am freaking out that I made the wrong decision about reporting it. Maybe I should of just gone to urgent care after work and not even told anyone at work.

You did the right thing and she did the right thing. Yes it sucks for her but one of her jobs is to do the sucky thing.

I agree with Varaj. You did the right thing. You could make things worse if you don't take it easy, I know. :o Try not to beat yourself up over it.

YOu did the right thing. And like varaj said, so did your boss. That is what sucks about being the boss sometimes.

I really hope that your back is better soon.

She went in today and they put her on "light duty" for a week. Which means she's doing deskwork. Which is probably exactly what she needs, since her back still hurts and needs time to heal properly, but she isn't exactly happy. She misses the babies she watches.

Hope the back heals up quickly. Tell her to get better soon.

And apparently my supervisor was in bad shape too as when I called today to tell her I was on light duty I found out she was out. So my poor babies were being watched by big wigs from the main office. But maybe this will inspire them to finally hire us a dececent number of substitutes so this doesnt happen in the future. Hopefully, both my and my boss will be healed up soon and things can get back to normal.
