I believe that the unique human soul is our individual imprint on the quantum stuff of reality. I believe its attatched to our mind.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

Dan Simmons is that you?

Dan Simmons is that you?

I had actually thought that a good decade before reading Simmons... its one the reasons I LOVED Simmons books is because it made me feel less strange in my beliefs.

Oh and answer my damn question!

i have been with people when they pass..... a change occurs--more than just biological change. call it essence, soul, electro magnetic whatever--it is there and then it is not--and some people seem to have more than others.

The soul is an illusion, one that drives much of our suffering.

So you believe the soul and the self to be one and the same?

Oh and answer my damn question!

I believe all things have souls. Souls are in all parts of us. As to what is a soul? As our body is to the universe so is your soul to the universe's consciousness.

Are you implying that the universe is sentient?

Also what is your stream of consious (aka crazyspeak) version of that reply?

Are you implying that the universe is sentient?

Not to be too difficult but it depends on what you mean by sentient. I belief all things have souls and they add up to make bigger souls (just like all physicals things on Earth add up to make Earth or all your cells add up to make you)

I belief at some level all thing sense but not always as a level that is meaningful to how humans sense. So yes I think that universe is sentient and sapient just not in a way that is meaningful to humans (that doesn't imply more or less, just different).

If you join me on placing the soul as a quantum imprint you achieve the same end in that the matter of your body is reused and in so happening your pattern merges with the greater universe. You could then still have the universe be connected and aware on some unknowable unfunctional unuseful level.

I'm not sure there even is a soul, but if there is I like to think of it as the echo of our ability to enforce our will upon our environment.

The Celts, apparently, believed that the essence of a person, the entirety of their power, lay in the head -- so they'd take them as battle trophies, claiming their foe's power for themselves, and hang the heads above their doorway.

Tails, you lose -- Heads... I win! (chop)

Conversation that happens fairly often in my house.
4 Year old, "I'm hungry! What should I eat?"
Me, "The hearts of your enemies."

This is a very good question. Do I believe a person has a soul. Yes I have to believe that there is more to my being than just the human side.

Now here is another question and I will fork it to another thread. Do you believe in re-encarnation?

Maybe, depends on how one defines such things. I could see someone believing in a self but not a soul. But if there's no self it seems rather evident that there's no soul either.

Perhaps the soul is the self stripped of illusion?

If there is no self there can still be animus.
