View Full Version : A question on YouTube links from Kay

I am quite new to the astonishing (to make an astonishing *understatement* ) program known as YouTube.
My old computer from 1999 would not handle any such concept, but recently I bought a new computer.
And found YouTube. Never, NEVER, before has a computer program or capability brought me to tears. Not even the initial wonders of Space Invaders and the Atari could do that.
But YouTube did. After I heard Pachelbel's Canon on a computer, it was ... it was overwhelming.
I come from a time when a Selectric Electric Typewriter was State of the Art consumer equipment, and it costs hundreds of dollars for one (in the money of that time.)
You obtained news through newspapers and the few channels you could get (during the day only) on TV (the old way, tuning in the high channels, changing the low channels (chunk, chunk, chunk), and looking in the TV guide.
The idea that ... that ... you could look at your once home 1,200 miles away at any time you wanted, or at any other place anytime you wanted, or ... at current weather conditions and forecasts anywhere on Earth ... that was overwhelming. Just overwhelming. And then came YouTube.
Now, you can look at any film, any documentary, any creative work, any piece of music, just about anything within the imagination almost, so long as it's been put up there (sometimes, I would note, in astonishing violation of copyright laws - at least, in the uploading, which I do not do at all, but perhaps even in the viewing ... I don't know there.) at any time, day or night, from ... a telephone????? (You, nowadays, call them iphones, or ipods, or whatever ... weren't telephones those things sitting on the table, connected by a wire to the wall, colored black, that you dialed (yes, dialed) numbers on, so you could talk to someone?)
The more that ... the unending cascade of what could only be called ultimate power ... the power to call up anything, anything at all, on demand ... things beyond the most incredible dreams of people when I was young ... taken for granted now ... it is staggering. It is overwhelming. It ... it is far beyond any words.
But there are still Rules, and so I wish to know Kay's rules concerning YouTube.
What YouTube links may I place here, on Kay? (I am referring just to YouTube. I *realize* there are alternate YouTubes. And *that* is even more staggering, more overwhelming. But I am referring to the original YouTube only, for the purpose of this question.)
Yours Sincerely
A now perpetually astonished, even blown-away Edena_of_Neith

It truly does boggle the mind. Technically they must remove any copyrighted material - but it has to be reported before they notice it. After all, with people uploading thousands upon thousands of media clips every day, how can they possibly be expected to personally screen each one?
If you want to post a video here, I don't know if we have special copyright rules. But it's amazingly easy. Go to the YouTube page you want and copy the entire address from the browser bar. Then in your post here at Kay's just type [me dia] then paste your link and then type [/me dia]
I had to put spaces in the middle of the world media for it to work. But obviously you wouldn't include spaces when you do it. It will then post the actual YouTube video right in your post.
For example, here is a video of some dancing duck-creatures I made in SPORE:

Thanks, Name Lips. Thanks much. :)
But indeed, a lot of this stuff on YouTube, it's copyrighted material. I don't want to post links to this copyrighted material, if it is going to get Kay in trouble.
The last thing I ever want, is to cause trouble for Kay Tastrophe. I mean that.
So I need the rules from Brynja and our other Admins. I do not know what their rules are, on this matter.
There are some very POWERFUL images from YouTube, that I would post, if I knew the rules and it was allowed, to help me make my points on various threads.
Not graphic, not sexual, not anything like that. But powerful just the same.
EDIT: I followed the link from that image in the Sexual Forum (the thread: Would you find this fun?) here, that link from the alternate Adult YouTube, and where that link led ... there are no words ... I freaked out. I *do not* freak out. That simply does not happen. But *I* freaked out (and what is even more incredibly freaky, is - basically - any clever 8 year old kid, boy or girl, could get on the computer, look at everything (EVERYTHING!!!) I saw, without a password or authorization of any sort, then delete the computer 'history' afterwards to fool their parents, and ... well, in short, and sorry for the profanity but in this case even I ... even I don't know how to express it any other way ... JESUS H CHRIST!!!)

Varaj, Kay, Brynja, what have the rules been concerning (the standard, no-nudity) YouTube? Concerning links to there, from here?
What are the rules now?

YouTube videos are supposed to be nudity-free. You can get your YouTube account banned for posting nudity, I think.
But if you look in the various music video threads here you'll see that we're posting copyrighted material all the time.

If it is within Kay's rules to post links to YouTube videos of material under copyright, and Kay will not get in trouble for this, then I have a number of things I could post.
This is up to the Admins. Up to Brynya. Kay. Varaj.
You know me. This is not a trick question. I've been loyal to Kay since I came here years ago. On this touchy subject, all I want to do is ensure that Kay is protected, that Kay is not attacked by others out there.

You've never read my rants about YouTube nudity v.s. YouTube violence... I was quite (annoyingly) vocal about it.
I don't think there's a problem posting copyrighted YouTube material here, we've all been doing it for a while, Varaj included IIRC (music videos).
What I WOULDN'T post are videos which clearly go against our admin's tastes, specifically animal cruelty. Common sense...

That would be my understanding as well.

Can't imagine Edena wanting to post animal cruelty, fortunately.
And Edena, parents can put parental controls on their computers with passwords, so sexual content does not get displayed. Though I gotta agree with Trainz, that I'd rather have my kids seeing people loving each other than chopping each other's heads off.

I wish "porn" wasn't such a huge, catch-all category. I might not mind my children stumbling across loving, softcore stuff. I wouldn't pop it in the DVD player for a sunday afternoon of course, but it wouldn't worry me if they happened to see it. But in the same places online you can find that stuff, you can also find faux-incest, golden showers, BDSM, and so forth that I wouldn't want them to stumble into.
It's almost like I have to be a real parent and keep track of what they do online and talk to them about potential weird stuff and dangers, not just hook an internet connection up to their rooms, toss them in, and shut the door.

This doesn't come close to Cish-Cash, but gosh, it's fun....

...especially if you can understand the lyrics:
Hello there sailor
Hi there Lili Marlene
Good morning school girls
Welcome to the team
Beehive hairdo forty-five on the hip
Patrolwoman Saunders don't you give her no lip
Took me to the station for a breath test
Then back to her bedroom for some house arrest
Women in uniform sometimes they look so cold
Women in uniform but oooh they feel so warm
Flying to my hometown on a 747
Stewardess made me feel like I'm in heaven
Looking up the aisle trying to see what I could see
She leaned over and said coffee tea or me
White apron and brown leather shoes
The nurse at the clinic left my heart all bruised
Broke my left leg and sprained my right
Now she takes my temperature every night
Women in uniform sometimes they look so cold
Women in uniform but ooh they feel so warm
Women in uniform Women in uniform
Women in uniform Women in uniform
Commando raid on the Lebanese border
Sergeant Anita she gives the order
Khaki jacket and a sten gun
Baby I surrender let's have some fun
Khaki navy blue and brass buttons bring me to my knees
A peaked cap and a badge or two oooh they're such a tease
So girls if the man you need just won't come across
Put on a uniform show him who's the boss
Women in uniform sometimes they look so cold
Women in uniform but ooh they feel so warm
Women in uniform khaki white and blue
Women in uniform coming after you
