View Full Version : What do you think about while stuck in traffic?

Traffic sucks, traffic eats up shit loads of most of our lives better spent on other things. How do you make the most of it?

I run through scenarios for my life... if this happens what would I do sorts of things.

I always end up thinking about something similar; if I got XX amount of money, what would I do.

Say, got 10 million in the lottery, or I got 100k from inheritance, or got 5k from winning a prize. I always make up situations like that and figure out what I'd do with the money.

The one thing I always figure out is that if I do win a bunch of money I won't be sitting in traffic anymore.

I don't have to sit in traffic too often here, but I usually think about stuff that is coming up in my life, and how it will change things or how I will react. So, I guess it is in a similar vein to what you are talking about.

I sometimes think about getting out of my car, going to the annoying fucker in the car in front/behind/beside me and bashing his skull in. What was he doing? Does it matter? He's annoying!

Do you ever try and figure out what sort of sad life they live? I wonder what they are thinking about and how they got where they are... and how best to use that to destroy them forever should I win that Powerball.

So... this is what I daydream about?

Sometimes I think about how cool it would be if I could someohow go back in time and live life as a kid, but with my current knowledge.

And then I have a bit of road rage.

And that usually turns into thinking about if I could remember who won certain sporting events and therefore make bets on the correct winner, and if I could remember the times and dates to jump in/jump out of the stock market.

And then I have a bit of road rage.

And then I realize that I could probably get a job at mcdonalds, earn a few hundred bucks and be a bazillionaire with super-accurate stock market and gamboling on sport predictions.

I have been known to contemplate the mediocrity of their lives, but usually it just makes me mad. I have known too many people who have had "sad lives" that could have avoided it if they had just tried or put some effort forth.

Usually, I swear a lot.

Sometimes, I will think about my campaign and come up with plot points or NPCs.

Me too, I tend to daydream about how the next session will go if I'm really bored and nothing more interesting is going on.

I think about Limper's luscious as--- oh wait, never mind, that's while I'm doing dishes, not stuck in traffic.

I think, "so, what should I think about while I'm stuck here?"

I probably haven't been stuck in traffic in 6-8 years but I thought then "Do all these commuter people plan bathroomtrips before they get out here? I mean, they are ALL drinking somehting and there is nowhere to pee."

Besides Limper's ass, when I daydream I typically think about home improvement projects. I have a subscription to the Family Handyman magazine and I'm such a noob to this awesome hobby that it gives me lots of daydream mileage.

I usually think about how nice it would be if I had a pair of .50's and a tailgunner. Thank God my commutes are much shorter these days.

I also think about how much radio sucks, and that I really should bring some new cds into the car, but then I invariably forget to do so.

have educational cds in the glove box--learn a language, listen to the great works, that sort of thing. i take advantage of the fact that i am a captive audience. left to my own devices....men/chocolate, or gardening plans. if you have a garden you always have something to keep your mind busy in a relativley pleasant and productive way.

Only time I've been in gridlock is in Little Rock, listen to sports radio and call in

i work apx 1 hour on the hwy fm where i live, plus occasional forays thru detroit--try to avoid regular "rush" hrs--and heading north on 75 on a friday is the pits--esp. on the big weekends--ive been to LA and do not understand how people manage to get anywhere,on time, ever, with their sanity and temperment intact.

I just turn up the radio, start drumming on the steering wheel and SING!

Either that or about how I wished traffic jams had bathrooms!

I will flip on my MP3 player and sing at the top of my lungs, dancing in my car seat.

I can't do it at home, with my bastard roommates, so I get my fill doing it in the car.

I listen to news radio and sports talk radio so I am usually pondering what the current topic is.

Also I think about Limper's big, throbbing... oh wait, wrong thread!!!

My list of things to do, unit plans, lesson plans, a problem one of my students was talking about to me, my mom, what i have to do next week, and sometimes my gaming characters.

I'll read at red lights if they're long and traffic is really boring.

I just listen to music & sing along. Usually think about where I'm headed that day, what I have to do, what I forgot to do yesterday, stuff like that.

I think about how much it's going to hurt when i finally get doored.

When traffic is stopped but the bike lane is free is when i know i am at maximum danger for death. People SOMETIMES check their driver mirror for cyclists, but when a stopped car lets a passenger out when in traffic, the passenger rarely checks to make sure there isn't a cyclist in the bike lane. The two times i've made contact with cars while riding have both been from passenger dropoffs at lights.

Clearly i didn't die either time :)
