What's all this then???

Hello..I posted a message here that is irrelevant to the actual topic of the thread so I'm editing it to say this instead of that. Excuse me please.

It's something we'll try on for size. No guarantees at this point.

I have absolutely no idea how to map this to my "owe me a blowjob" scale.

How does it rate on the "me kicking you in the balls" scale? Answer honestly, now... this is for posterity.

I say "Give me a blowjob", you say "kick you in the balls." Let's call the whole thing off.

How often can one give karma? SHARK needs some good karma, yet I can't give him any.

maybe I'm dumb, but I would like a bit of guidance...

When I'm giving someone karma, am I saying "this is a good post" or "this is a good poster"

It makes a difference.

The latter. Rate the poster, based on quality of post. I believe you can rate them again for other posts, if your opinion changes.

While I'm not trying to disagree with the mighty headmaster, karma doesn't matter on the actual post.

If you go into someone's profile, you can vote on their karma there.

It's purely a "I like/dislike this poster," and has nothing to do with a specific post.

Uhm that is what she said. I believe she is suggesting you could rate a person based off a post and if another post makes them change your mind you can re-rate them.

Okay, that's fine, it was a slight misunderstanding because she mentioned "Based on the quality of that post."

How does it calculate controversy?

How does it calculate controversy?

To me, it looks like if you have votes that are 'far' from each other, you'll get "very high." Like Brynja had a couple of 1 votes, and a couple of 5's, and she was "very high." If you have some 3's and 4's, it'd probably be 'medium.' If you had all 2's, it'd be low.

Of course, I could be way off.

When the most hated list has 90% people in the positive, I don't think the sample size is large enough to take seriously. :p

All right, I'm entering hypernerd mode now because I don't like what I'm seeing.

Too many people are saying "Hey, nice post, have a five." That's not how this system was intended to work, and there are way too many five votes.

Karma should be a rating of how much a person contributes to the messageboard, along with your own personal spin.

For instance, when I'm giving out karma, if you provide nothing to the board, you get a 0 vote. If you provide some stuff sometimes, you'll get a 1. If you provide some stuff often, or provide good stuff sometimes, you get a 2. If you provide some stuff very frequently or really good stuff sometimes, you get a 3. If you provide really good stuff sometimes or good stuff frequently, you get a 4. That's the highest I give for bringing something to the messageboard.

"Stuff" is defined as comedy, commentary, or other useful posts.

I also give a bonus point if I "like" the person. That's the only way to get a 5 in my system. I have only given out one 5 vote thus far.

Negatives are given to people whose presence or posts actually detract from the enjoyment of the messageboard. I haven't given any negative votes yet.

Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Despite Cadet Droid being easily confused, this is probably what I should have said:

The latter. Rate the poster, based on the collective quality of their posts. I believe you can change your rating for them for other posts, if your opinion changes.

Now that Cadet Droid has made it his mission in life to dismantle and meticulously study the Karma system, as well as instruct others on how they should utilize it, perhaps he should be the first to receive a rating from me.

On the plus side, at least he's obviously putting thought into his votes. ;)
