Stupid kitty was messing about with her hard drive yesterday and today WoW would not start.:o
So when I try to install it, it says: Error: Not enough RAM. However, I have a tiny C-drive and a huge F-drive called Fred. So I installed WoW on the F-drive. Is that ok or did I do something wrong?

I wouldn't have thought so. Maybe WOW is wierd.
Has some of your RAM fried or come loose? Were you voiding your warranty and playing around on the inside?
If you right click the my computer icon then select "properties" you can see how much Ram your system thinks it has, and if that's not as much as you are supposed to have, then... well go see if something has come free...

Changing hard drives should not impact RAM.

I don't think so... What I did was I wanted to do a defrag but the C-drive was too full. I then moved and deleted some files and apparently got rid of something essential for WoW.:o
I tried to repair but it would not, saying that I had damaged it too greatly and was not allowed to play with it any more.:o Bad kitty. So I phoned the help desk, who advised me to just delete it all and reinstall it. I did. Then I got the error: not enough RAM message.
Where do I find how much RAM my computer has? Is that Virtual Memory?

Right-click on "My Computer" and click "properties." Near the bottom of the "General" tab, it should say how much RAM (memory) you have.

Huh. It says: Computer:
Intel (R)
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1700MHz
Kloksnelheid (errr... clock speed?): 1.72 GHz, 256 MB
What does that mean, oh wise computer cadets?

I'm guessing the 256MB is the RAM.
It's a bit low I suppose.

Thank you! Now how do I change that? Can I? I don't remember WoW moaning about this when I first installed it...

According to my BC box, mimimum RAM for WoW is 512 mb.
I ain't no computer doctor or nuthin', but 256 RAM is disturbingly low for any compy made in the last decade. Something's definitely out of whack there.

Do you have any records of what hardware the computer shipped with? It's possible that it's not recognizing all of your memory, if you had WoW working before.
Hopefully you know how much RAM was supposed to come with the computer...
Yeah, that's what I was saying. I say you look inside the thing, see if you can see the ramcards and maybe pull them out, blow off the dust and jiggle them back in place again, see if it recognizes the card it isn't finding again.
do that while its OFF btw.

I don't enjoy it, but I don't find it particularly scary either. My current computer case is somewhat intelligently designed with panels on the sides that come off, as opposed to the one I used to have where you had to pull out the entire innards out of the "shell".

I don't mind opening her up, I've quite a sensible case. She is an oldie though. What does this RAM-card look like and where can I find it? Is it in a slot on the mother board? But if RAM is fixed, how come WoW is moaning now and not before? And can I just buy a different RAM card?
And under Advanced, I find this thing called Virtual Memory saying that something called "Wisselbestanden" (Changing files?) are parts of the hard drives Windows uses as if it's RAM. It sayd the total amount of "Wisselbestanden" on all stations is 384 MB.
Bestow more of your wisdom upon me plz!

RAM usually looks like a long, rectangular thing with multiple chips on it, with one of the long edges slid into the mobo. It varies somewhat, but something like the attached image. Most mobos have several slots for RAM, for upgrading.
It's possible that when you mucked about, the RAM came loose. In that case, see if you can put it back in again. Otherwise, you can buy more RAM. However, there are multiple types of RAM available, so make sure you get RAM that's compatible with your mobo.

However, I did not physically muck about. Just with some files.

Ok, and how do I know which RAM is compatible?

Knowing what RAM is compatible is always a pain in the ass. If you still have your specs for your computer, use the same type. If you know what mobo you have, I believe there are sites where you can look up what kind of RAM you want (or you could ask in the store).
Worst comes to worst, you could always unplug the RAM you do have and show a retailer and say you want another one like that (except bigger). Be careful with it though, it's pretty delicate.
