Where's my jetpack? Where's my fucking flying car?

These are the questions asked by the hero of yet another Warren Ellis monthly. It owes a lot to Warren's previous masterpiece Transmetropolitan. The good Doktor even has a "filthy assistant"

This isn't a criticism. Whereas Spider Jerusalem utterly rejected the idea of being any sort of icon, Doktor Sleepless begins by the hero, shedding his old identity to become a self-confessed messiah, a "Future Science Jesus". What I'm saying is that if you liked Transmetropolitan, you'll should enjoy this

Whereas Transmetropolitan is throughly post-human, Doktor Sleepless is very much five minutes into the future. You can see how gadgets like the clatter lenses and shriekyware would impact on our own lives. Incidentally, it has it's own wiki, at http://www.doktorsleepless.com

Compare and contrast with "The Boys"; six or seven issues in and I'm still not sure where Garth Ennis is going and I'm not sure if I care. By the end of issue #1 I think I can see where Warren it going to be taking this and I want to tag along for the ride. Someone's stolen our future and the Doktor wants to get it back

I have been reading this and his other new monthly Black Summer. I have to say I prefer Black Summer. The Art in Doktor Sleepless really detracts from the story. Interesting idea through.

PS The Boys fucking rock!

I'm getting Black Summer as well, but it hasn't quite gripped me in the same way that Doktor Sleepless has. So far I'm just seeing an (excellent) "getting the super-team back together" story. It's early days though. What didn't you like about the art? Computer-colouring?

It's ok. It's still on my pull list and I'm still enjoying it, but, I dunno. It ain't Preacher, that's all. Maybe I just want another Preacher

I understand were you are coming from. I am really starting to enjoy the insites into Butcher and the weay he ticks.

I haven't dropped Sleepless yet, but I am having doubts.
