Were the powers that be just waiting for the first whiner to remove this bit of the board or is somehting else up?

They are Lawyers both and therefore prone to whiney name calling legalism by training and disposition.

I ask that we, the community at alrge not be punished for those we know to be part of the greatest ill in western society.

Meh, no need for rep, anyway. Good riddance, I say.

Sure there was a need for Rep. It's fun, more fun than the arcade and a darn site more useful yet we still have that.

Eh no big. Was never a fan of the whole rep thing, I liked the ability to leave little comments to people I agreed with and never gave any negative rep unless it was retaliatory because the negreppers took it more seriously then I did. So I'm not saddened to see it gone.

Ditto... but that's why I liked having it around. It was a quick way to let somebody know that I laughed at their post, or give them a nod for making a very solid point. Rather that than spam the board with one of my long-winded replies, that is. ;)

Its nice not having the pointless affirmative posts and other jabs and pats that end up in Rep but not in the post string.

I use Rep to add thoughts that wouldn't go well with the thread, friendly japs and general barfoonary.

Quick PMs do that too.

Quick PMs do that too.

Bah! Fuck that. If I'm going to go through the trouble to PM somebody, I'll probably just turn it into a post -- unless it's something particularly private. In that case, I just ignore them. :D

Bagpuss
08-21-2007, 12:53 PM
Quick PMs do that too.

PM's aren't quick, especially when you first have to copy and paste the message that you are referring to. Rep is better than pm's because

a) Didn't have to browse away from the thread
b) Linked to the post in question
c) Doesn't fill up your PM box so you have to delete them now and again.

Rep does one thing PM's do another PM's are not a suitable replacement for rep.

Maybe I just care less about context. Hmm yea I do, I think spelling things better is a huge step for me.

True enough but really I dont want to listen to KoS (much as I like his posts otherwise) queef on about rep.

Sadly the improvement in spelling and grammer on your part have come at the expense of quality and insight.

Maybe rep comments could be renamed as "feedback" and always be grey -- no pluses or minuses, no sirree!

In the mean time, if rep's not going back (and I don't expect it to), could we get rid of that "You have no new reputation comments." line in the top-right corner? :)

If we had rep, I'd give you one for using the phrase 'listen to KoS queef on about'.

I'd like to see rep that records good or bad comments but doesn't keep a running total. Knowing the total is pointless. But then that's for General Kay to say - we're in their army, and it is not for us cadets to reason why, but to do and die. :)

It's not overrated but it is frowned upon. Doing that could make you a social outcast.

Good point. I for one regarderd the rep comments as the on line equivalent of someone nodding along and saying "Yeah!", or laughing at your joke; whereas the post option is like making your own statement, and the PM is like talking to someone in private after a conversation: "That thing you said was really good". And as such I liked them.

Every now and again I'd get something really amusing like a negrep reading: "I HOPE YOU AND YOUR GOD FUCKING DIE!" -- usually from the same person who was saying that I wasn't really getting to them in a thread. This amused me greatly. :D

Obviously you know nothing about jokes since the shelf life of a joke is clearly three times. Your wife is a charitable woman.
