View Full Version : What would you want to discover?

If you could discover one thing that would chage the world what would it be?
If like myself you can't figure out just one thing... list up to three.
Efficient renewable energy: Something that is clean and produces 10% more than it take to make it.
The other would be non binary computers: Something with more than two states.

Teleporters a la Star Trek. :)

Replicators a la Star Trek - make whatever you want, when you want and recycle it into anything else when you're done. Make zero-calorie pizzas, french fries or ice cream! Be able to read a copy of any book from any period that a copy of survives anywhere (to act as a template)
Dimensional Trancendentalism a la the TaRDiS; your house has the external space of a piano box bit is a mansion on the inside!
Instantaneous transportation similar to the Star Trek transporter but not based on killing you at one point and rebuilding you at another.

The answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything that doesn't involve a stupid fucking number.
Barring that, a foolproof automatic diaper changer.

They already have those. They're called "maids."

I'd go for a Programable Excrement Telportation Device: Allows one to program where the childs leavings are teleported to.
Lots of fun in that device.
Things I want to discover.....
How to spell ? I'm at a loss

Erm if you invent the first one you shouldn't need the other two.

I think I would want to discover the truth behind some minor mystery like, "what's the real deal with the loch ness monster?" or something similar.

I'd have to go with "an argument to shut fundamentalists up. Everywhere. All of 'em."
I'm so fucking sick of proselytizers and pinheads of every stripe. I don't give a fuck whether they believe in Jehovah, Yahweh, Allah, the FSM, or goddamned Born Again Atheists ("BAA!", said the sheep!)... I'm just sick to death of them trying to either convert people or blow them up. I wish there were one simple argument that could be thrown at them that would render their fanaticsm useless, and get them to look more at their own behaviour instead of pissing down their legs about what other people believe.

I disagree. I'm keeping with in the limits of reality and teleportation won't remove the need for other forums of transportation.
I will add also to the list nanite replication and nanite printing.
Nanaites building, just pour and stand back and you have a home

Oooo, can I switch out teleportation for nanite medicine/body maintenance?
Inject nanites and voom, they rebuild damaged organs, transform fat into muscle (or just flush it out of the system), replace lost body parts, clean out veins and arteries, destroy parasites, wipe out viruses, increase penis size, tighten loose vaginae...

Depends on how your teleportation works and how big a thing you can teleport, how far, how quickly?
If you could teleport something the size of say the QE2 even a short distance say 10 meters but do so repeatedly very fast, then there you have FTL travel and since the ship isn't actually moving in the sense it has momentum there is no need for inertial dampers (aka. Stutterwarp (http://home.earthlink.net/~ad2300/warptech.htm)).
