View Full Version : Alright, who gave me a -5 in Karma?

I just got a second -5 in Karma.
You know what? That bothers me. I have attacked nobody here, and tried to be reconcilatory in my posts.
You are entitled to your privacy, as Karma is a private thing. But if you would care to, would you please speak up and tell me why you think I am so bad and should be kicked off Kay? You know, no biggie, just thinking I'm so rotten and should be KICKED OFF KAY. You mind telling me the why of this?
As for me, I've given nothing but positive Karma (look at the Karma stats.)
I see no reason to speak ill of others, to make a point of publicly denouncing others.
But you see a point in denouncing me. What's your beef, here? Why are you doing this?

I mean, it's your right to give -5s in Karma, and have secrecy about it. You don't have to reply to my request.
But if you think so strongly about me, I'd think you'd want to reply. Rep works that way, so why not speak up and tell me why you think I'm so rotten?

If you measure your esteem by the thoughts of random strangers you will get random results at best - for there are few, if any, actions that aren't offensive to somebody - so try to pick a small group of people you like - care about their opinions so long as they care about yours - and take whatever anyone else says with a couple tablespoons of salt.

Don't worry Edena the worst that happens is you come back as a dog or monkey.

Nevertheless, if someone puts down on my public record that I'm a lousy guy and deserve to be kicked off this board (which is what a -5 means) then they should at least get up and explain themselves.
If I gave a -5, I would. The only time I've ever met anyone deserving of a -5 was back in 2002 when some creep said he wished I had been in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Now, THAT'S something worth giving a -5 over.
If someone has a beef, then let them speak up. We can work it out. We can talk about it. But let them speak up.

I believe your mistake is in seeing that a -5 means you are a horrid person. When I've gotten the bad karmas it comes from people not liking what I was saying in a post... its only when all you get is wretched karma that you can make the assumption that you are unloved and deserving of board death.
Don't take things so personal.
That said good luck on outing the culprit of your agravation.

Don't bother yourself with them, Edena. The overwhelming majority of votes are +4 or +5. :)

I'm tempted to give you -5 just for this thread and I like you.

Pardons, all. I'm going through a personal crisis. (It should be obvious from some of the recent posts I've made ... although everything I said in those posts is true.)
And so I'm just sensitive, is all. Kay has always been a place of sanctuary, a place of peace, to get away from the flamefests at ENWorld, Circys Maximus, and a disintegrating Nutkinland.
I hope we can keep it that way. Cheers to all.

If you want sanctuary you go to a church, or more likely ask a 1st level Cleric in your case. ;)
It's not something you are likely to find on the internet.
Karma is not really that important, Edena. I wouldn't get up in arms about it. I think a much better litmus test is rep, because at least then you have something concrete (a post) to link it to. Criticize my ideas with negrep. Comment with midrep, and support with posrep. But in all 3 cases, it's an attack on the post primarily, and not on me as a person. Karma is far too easy to just sling around according to the whims of the moment, so it's not really worth getting upset over.

You can look at your karma history, Edena. Click the little triangle next to your karma rating. You can see who has rated you with what karma, and if you don't like it, you can remove their vote.
For example, Lisa rated me a -5. I removed it because I don't consider her to be a worthwhile poster. If, say, Bella, Clay, B3, or someone like that, whose opinions I value, had rated me a -5, I would keep it.
Atticus rated Schizm a -5, and Schizm has said he bears it with pride. It all depends on who rates you and for what reasons.
No those are your ratings for those people. You can't remove a vote that someone else gave you. I would know about it if it were possible.
Edena try not to let it bother you. I have one of the worst karma ratings here at Kays and if I let it bother me, I'd never be able to stop crying. I have 11 negative Karma votes.
Yeah, you're right, Lady Fury. I had posted that originally then revised it. I shouldn't post so early in the morning, I guess. Brain hasn't fully woken up.
I got loads of minus fives Edena - does it mean that I am a horrid person and should be kicked off Kay's........nobody answer that. Just shove your minus five in with my bagful and nobody will notice.

Thanks for the support, all. Cheers to all of you. Really. Cheers.
Also, know that I have given you all Positive Karma. And it's deserved. We are a community, have been a community since the time when there was still a Nutkinland. And I have a lot of friends here; you are friends.
There'll be no Negative Karma from me for anyone here (and Neutral Karma seems sorta pointless, I think) so long as there is a Karma system. Short of someone wishing me dead (lol ... like with that idiot back in 2003 elsewhere) there'll be no Negative Karma from me.
Edena_of_Neith
I'd hand out -5's to people who are truly disruptive of the vibe and don't get it.
But Edena certainly isn't in that bucket for me.
Even if you were man, it's just one person's opinion, doesn't affect you either way. Take pride that you have enough of a presence to make a strong impression. :)

What if I'm beta testing a system and report the bug for treason?
Could I then set on it as part of the execution squad?

Hey Edena. Karma and Rep are meaningless.
OH GOD I'M LYING YOU ALL KNOW I LIVE FOR IT, DON'T MAKE ME CRY DON'T MAKE ME CRY!!!
Seriously dude, don't worry about it. It's all a bit of a laugh. I mean I'm negrepping singularity regularly now just for the fun of it, and LMIK seems to be actively trying to get himself dinged... it's all in fun. You'd still be here if the boards didn't have that stuff, right?
OH GOD PLEASE LOVE ME, WHY WON'T YOU LOVE ME?
