CW Readies Pre-Robin Graysons

The CW is readying a series based on Batman sidekick Robin's early days, called The Graysons, Variety reported.

Smallville executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as Supernatural executive producer McG, are behind The Graysons, which has landed a put pilot commitment at the network.

Just as Smallville focused on Clark Kent in the years before he became Superman, The Graysons will follow the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the iconic Robin identity and aligns himself with Batman.

It's the latest DC Comics franchise to be mined for the small screen by Warner Brothers TV. McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision label is also attached.

The Graysons is seen as a potential replacement for Smallville should that show end its run this season, which has been speculated.

In the original Batman mythology, Grayson was a young acrobat and part of the family act called The Flying Graysons. He was orphaned when a gangster sabotaged his parents' trapeze equipment. Bruce Wayne took him under his wing and trained him to help fight crime.

Grayson later morphed into the character of Nightwing, as part of The New Teen Titans, and a series of new Robin replacements were introduced.

This looks like an absolutely silly idea. I think they could have actually done well with the Dick Grayson character if they would have gone in one of two directions with it. The first would be a post-Batman sidekick show based on his Nightwing character (not related to the Titans), and the other would be if they did something more like the Grayson trailer that showed up online a few years back:

I'll bet you they actually make it work, for a couple of seasons.

Odds are good. They've created quite the formula over at WB.

Smallville had a couple golden seasons, and Supernatural is nothing short of amazing. Roswell milked an interesting sci-fi angle for awhile, but it never caught my fancy.

Leads are two dudes. No hotties in sight for the first season. They even ditched Bella and Ruby (v1.0). There may be a correlation between how cool Supernatural is and this formula (or lack thereof).

Supernatural is an X-Files knockoff. It wasn't the first attempt at this, but it is the first one that actually didn't get cancelled, and its not a bad show. I think I liked it a little better in the beginning when it wasn't all demons all the time, but its still quite a bit of fun.

Of the X-Files clones, I'm more excited about Fringe, though I've only caught the premier so far. The other three are still sitting on my DVR, but I will watch them soon.

Not the way I've heard women talk about it. ;)

i really hope that this show tanks. come one casting an actor in his mid 20's to play dick (not dj) its not right. now a show that showcased bruce would have a better chance of succeeding. now that youtube clip was pretty cool be an interesting concept
