If your fish IS your best friend, get him a bigger bowl. They like room to move. I doubt the fish needs to go nightclubbing with you to feel cared for. :)

I think it works differently then being in big open water. The fish can control it's ability to move around but in a fish bowl they are pretty much at the mercy of their owner.
