I'm kind of ready for a change, it's not so much dissastisfaction with my career, it's more the allure of what else is out there. (http://www.universityofnigeria.com/)

Of course, those are courses done by correspondence, but that might be a more practical way of going about it. Anyone else studying?

I really wish that I was taking classes right now. The main thing holding me back right now is the money. it is better put to use for the kids than my education right now.

I am going for my Ed. D. (or D. Ed. whichever you prefer) with an emphasis on holistic curriculum development at Columbia. Doctoral students get a better schedule, I take one course a semester. I go in, but always ask first if I can telecommute- it is easier for me than schlepping into the city. I enjoy it, but it does present challenges to your work schedule. I say all that because sometimes your professors are quite flexiable. Find out what sort they are- many are very willing to work with students who also work full time. Not all are which brings me to what needs to be your main assumption-

The reality is that neither school nor work is willing to budge on deadlines. When I did my masters at night and worked I found I got perhaps 4 hrs of sleep each night. two days a week i did NOTHING. It was on purpose so I could get in maybe 7 hrs but guilt often got me up and working anyhow.

You should go back, esp if you have thought it out and know what you wanna do with the additional knowledge capital you gain.

It would be nice if you'd discuss these things with me first. ;)

Just then.

I wonder if they have courses like "Spamming as an embezzlement method"?

BA-

I have to admit I didn't. Once I did I put my head down.

Damn you coops!

Seriously, on the topic of going back to university, I taught part time in 2003 and 2005 and absolutely loved it, but I also decided I could not go back to full time study.

What I'd love is to be able to balance part time teaching with practice. I found that the practical day-to-day experience made me a better teacher, but the teaching gave me more enthusiasm for the law and a broader perspective that I would otherwise have had. Of course, the problem is the hell wrecks with one's schedule.

I'm in school at the illustrious California Polytechnic University, Pomona. I'm finishing up my BS in Mechanical Engineering. This fall I'm taking:

EGR 402 - Engineering Ethics
ME 411 - Heat Power
ME 415 - Heat Transfer
ME 435 - Some Class I Can't Remember the Name of (I think it's Engineering Measurements - how to set up strain gages, thermal-couples, and the circuits to decode the raw electrical data they provide for us and put it into an engineering context)
ME 481/482 - Senior Project. I'm researching and designing a parabolic dish reflector with a few other folks, trying to figure out how to manufacture it with the qualities we desire, such that it can be put into the gigantic solar sterling array in the Center for Regenerative Studies and actually function.

After this quarter, I'll have only a few, relatively easy classes to take - ME 425, Undergrad Seminar, Thermal System Design, Air Conditioning (or Solar Thermal Engineering), and US Government (which I'm trying to get waived).

The students of the University of Nigeria are among the best and brightest in the world. They are the ones who mastermind business ventures. They are the ones who will control the lives of millions around the world.

Ah, dictator school!
