For second time this week, crowds leave after Palin speaks

At a rally outside Youngstown, Ohio, Tuesday night, dozens of attendees left while McCain was still speaking.

I caught up with a few of them. Some explained that the airplane hangar where the rally was being held had grown crammed and uncomfortable. Others said they had other events or commitments to get to.

Notably, though, the exodous had only begun after Palin spoke.

Now, the same thing has happened again.

"I look up, about five minutes into McCain's address and see a steady stream of people walking out of the rally," writes Radio Iowa's Kay Henderson from a McCain-Palin event in Cedar Rapids.

Evidently the crowds are hearing about a Palin/McCain administration...

If McCain and Palin were on American Idol, Palin would be sitting down while McCain would be called up to talk to Ryan Seacrest to hear about how America has voted. Along with Biden.

Obama would be safe next to Palin trying to outdo her "this is a sad moment, someone is leaving us" face.

EDIT: Conventional wisdom tells us that people vote for the President, that the VP pick doesn't matter nearly as much. This is the first time I've doubted that this is still the case. Palin, IMO, is outshining McCain a bit and I think he knows this. I think he's trying to ride the rockstar wave instead of being left behind by it.

Which is why they are campaigning so much together - typically the VP and P hit different states - but McCain cant afford the crowd let down if Palin is not there.
