How would you try and make your online antics sound professional? Sound like an asset to a job?

I wouldn't. I come here for fun. It's not meant for public consumption.

I did not think that you could do that.

I'm trying to redo the resume for a position in which I'd be admining and digging data out of the company online community/blog space.

The job description sounds VERY much like what I do all day on boards and Google Finance and such but I'd be getting paid to do the stuff I do rather than doing my current job duties.

I'll have to keep those.

Not that anyone here would necessarily agree that I'm in possession of those.

Agreed. There's a reason I don't share my real name or want it used here (or ENWorld, or other haunts). I really don't care if most of y'all know my real name. It's the "others" that concern me.

Yeah, totally. Most of you know my real name, but there are too many potential others to worry about.

I don't think anyone here would abuse it if I revealed my name, but I'm definitely not going to risk it. This is a board anyone can read. You have to register to post, but you can browse at will. I don't honestly think that even my "enemies" here would really go to town on me, but on the other hand there's no reason to use my real name when Radu works just as well. I'm still the same person with (mostly) the same opinions and (mostly) the same enthusiasm in real life. (I can't help but pull a little bit of the "it's only the internet" personality re-write, but for the most part I really am who I post as.)

Re: Professional stuff

Practiced negotiator and discussion facilitator ("I can argue with anyone!)
Excellent written communication skills ("I know a lot of big words and fancy talk.")
Familiar with common internet tropes and communication styles ("I R Teh l337! Lemon curry?")

I'm pretty sure if someone did the foot work, they could figure out all my name and stuff. I've dropped enough info into where I went to school and what I want to do that Google would probably reveal everything haha.

How about: "Experience interacting with a variety of personality types and userbases in a broad spectrum of topic areas and knowledge levels."

HJ's real name is Burt Tandester. He is, in reality, a part time decorator, part time manicurist in a posh Memphis salon catering to Standard poodles and post-menopausal upper-middle class women. A large part of his success came when the rumor was spread that gigolloed on the side.

Then don't be surprised when they decide to cut that position when the next money crunch hits.

I'll be in product development in a company thats hiring and growing like a weed. If it ends so be it I have as400 experience and that shit is golden nationwide.

Getting fired is an opportunity I've had before and will have again just part of the cycle of life and employment.

HR called me this morning and is trying to convince me that I'm not worth $3800 of my current salary if I take the job.

I might be able to woo the hiring manger and get what I want but I'll bet it I'm not going to take the money because no how much happier I might be in tthe new position I'll not let them fuck me like that.

I desire $1200 more and given what I can bring to the table its a steal on their part at that.

Good for you! Stick to your guns. So many don't stick to their guns when it comes to employment deals because they are too afraid that the employer might say no. Most of the time the employer will give in if you are truly the best for the position.

Not the case with this company... I already work for them and know the crap they will try and pull. I am the best for the job and department, I know it I can sell it and if they don't want to buy it then I already have a job and I've well thought of and appreciated in this group.

They aren't the only one who can say no.

The same online community experience that they could access by hiring me could be turned against them so they procede at peril without knowing.

IT companies are bizzarre with this kind of thing.

In terms of costs, $3200 is nothing...

Like at my company, they won't spend $400 for a RAM+videcard upgrade, which would greatly enhance build times, increase worker productivity, etc. You know to cut costs.

However, the employee is wasting time, and they cost like 1.5k per week to employ... so you do the math. That $400 is nothing in terms of lost time.

I love economics.

Today is the day. I'll either succede in selling them on my standpoint and getting a pay bump for the new job or I take the idea of the job and go sell it and myself to another firm.

Hell yes it is. I lost most of August to endless interviews and calls with recruiters.

Good luck!
