Of course, it is a photoshoot for Vogue-

Sarah Palin poses for VogueIt can't be long before she launches a designer range of beaver hats and a branded hot pink lipstick. Sarah Palin, minus the spectacles, has done a photo shoot for Vogue, and is pictured hands on hips in a fur-collared green coat on the front page of the Telegraph.

Vendors at her rallies, drawing more of a crowd than John McCain could
ever have hoped for, are selling out of stickers bearing the legend
"Coldest State, Hottest Governor."

A 62-year-old Vietnam veteran enthuses: "There are old rednecks who
would have thrown me out of the local restaurant two weeks ago if I'd
said they'd ever vote for a woman. Now Sarah Palin comes along and
they're like a bunch of schoolkids tripping over themselves to listen
to her."

Sad, sad, sad.

I can't believe after all the bad press, she goes and does this.

Well a bimbo for VP is still better than Cheney I guess...

Man.

This makes all the cries of "SEXISM!" even sillier.

Since when were conservatives the staunch defenders of political correctness, anyways?

Jesus h christ... I am completely FED UP with all the "Obama is sexist" crap I've heard on the TV in the last 24 hours.

I hope like hell that Palin or McCain casually makes a Tar Baby remark or somesuch.

I agree, the lipstick on a pig debate is just stupid.....

Obama isn't sexist, and all the cries that he is don't wash, IMO. Also, I don't see anything wrong with Palin doing the pictures for Vogue. It certainly will appeal to a large group of people who subscribe to the magazine and may want to see her. No harm done.

To that point - I see this as no different than Obama hamming it up for US Magazine - assuming that Palin doesn't traps around with a bumper sticker saying "Coldest State, Hotest Govener" - then the sexist angle is lost for the Repubs...

The difference is Obama wasn't out crying about being attacked as a gigolo.

Palin was (through the campaign) crying about the 'sexist' attacks which mirrored those the campaign had been dishing out on Hilary, which she had directly said Hilary should "suck it up" for. Then she turns around and does this.

You want *this* within reach of the button?

If Palin dresses provocatively, then yes, I see Palin as a hypocryte. But if she dresses in stuff that she would normally wear, then no.

Further, it comes down to what is sexism and it is a debate that I think alot of people are have to come to grips with. Can you make the point that Palin appearing in Vogue is a utilizing her being a woman - and is that sexism? Or is it no different than Obama appearing in Men's Health because he is a man?

Sticky wicket... (and if she appears in Maxim.... :)

Buh wai-wai-wait! Palin has done no such thing! It's just people speaking on her behalf, over whom she has no controllllll! Palin herself has.. well, actually, she's mostly just said the same thing several times in several states. I hope for poor John-Johnny's sake she doesn't just repeat her stump speech when talking to him about important presidenting stuff.

She's supposed to have her first ABC interview today. I hope to be home from work in time to watch it. I'm sure it will be a soft interview, but I'd like them to at least hit SOME of the controversial high points ... and to be ready with responses to the common answers the campaign in general has so far given.

As for the article, again, I don't see it as a big deal. Like it or not, Palin is currently a hot celebrity. I would say maybe the HOTTEST celebrity. A lot of that is due to mystery and once we see more of her it will die down, but the woman has garnered a lot of attention. Hell, if the watercooler is an indication, she's the subject to talk about.

And, frighteningly enough, Dr. Cox, a female M.D. at our practice, went out and got her hair done like Palin.

Waht about the fact that she hasn't given a single substantive interview (or a nonsubstantive one) but is appearing in Vogue?

Can you address the point that she has done this and not done that? It is different form doing both by a country mile!

Does she normally eschew glasses so her eyes can be better seen, slather on hot pink lipstick, and give a come-hither hands-on-hips pose in a high-collared fur designed to frame the face and hide any older-lady neck skin imperfections?

You're reaching.

I am not reaching - I havn't seen the pictures - I am talking purly theoretical - and I have fully acknowledge that if sexes it up, then it is hypocrytical - not sure how much plainer I can be.

No reachng or picture viewing is needed to realize in the two weeks since the announcement of her nomination she has avoided ALL questions fomr the press. She is sequestered. But pretty pictures are alright.

Not seeing it man - I just dont see this anything other than a picture in a puff piece with something that folks would think of "alaskan attire"

The glasses are certinaly a different look - but not unheard of for her. The slatering and the come hither look seem to be a stretch though.....

Feats - I hear what you are saying - but this is also not atypical - and I suspect it is a way of easing her into the press circuit (after all how many interviews has Biden done? - but also accept that the rules are slightly different for her since she is so new to the national stage)

How is it not atypical? Can you name any other politician named to a national candiates ticket who went two weeks without questions from the press?

Biden gets interviewed almost everyday form what I can tell.

Don't get the fuss. What if Obama was on the cover of GQ -- and you can bet he'd ditch the glasses, if he wore them and dress in something flattering. It's not like that isn't just a men's Vogue. And Kerry's interview with Rolling Stone, as if RS is much higher on the culture scale.

The difference here is that for men sexy == powerful.

The difference was that they did other things as well. I am not criticizing her for appearing in Vogue. She would be a damned fool to do otherwise. But how about someone else being able to ask her a question?

Is she not ready to be put on the spot for an interview? Then how is she ready to be out on the spot like a VP is constantly?

I can't wait for the pics of Palin pegging McCain while he wears paper-mache moose antlers. But I suppose if he doesn't abort his chocolate-mousse shit babies, it's ok.
