Clever to let the kids run your campaign then. It's unassailable!

No need, she sunked herself.
That said, this campaign should be more than just about quick soundbites-faux pas. Like I said, I'm burnt out by the puerility of it all.
I'm glad that there's still a family left that knows about war. I was getting worried for a bit that I'd have to make do with the dozens of my friends and acquaintances who have family serving in the military.

What a slap in the face to all the vets out there and their families, not to mention those with loved ones serving in the military now. Un-fucking-real.

I don't see it the way you guys are. I think you're all reaching a bit on this one. She obviously, according to the context of the conversation, was talking in relation to the other candidates running, not families everywhere.
This is as much of an issue as Obama confirming that he's Muslim.

But the Palins have a son being deployed. Doesn't it seem they would know something about war?

She's a ditz and doesn't know how to pick the right words. I think she meant to say something more like, "Nobody knows war like the McCains." Which is still arrogant, but not breathtakingly stupidly arrogant.
But hey, she had one chance to get the 10 second soundbite right, and she blew it. Now she's stuck with the words that actually came out, like 'em or not. Welcome to politics.

They're not running against the girl's dad, though, so she probably wasn't thinking of them. This is just some rich guy's kid, not a politician herself.

Boy, she did a fine job on that one...
The Obama daughters are bit under-ripe for military service...
Biden's son Beau is also being deployed to the "sand box".
