Well, that is more than just a minor gaffe. We are going to see even more of this particular charge now, I guess.

The big question is does it bother Americans that he is a Muslim.

I'd like to see a longer clip. Were they talking about Islam shortly before that? It could be like that trick where you get someone saying "yes", "yes", then ask them an obvious "no" question.
But, you're right. That's going to be jumped on, badly.

I am going to assume you forgot to inlcude the sarcasm smiley?
I think the average voter cares a lot!

Haha, that's funny. Yeah, this is going to get blown out of proportion. You know he just said that because he was thinking of the accusation but he had to have mentally kicked his own ass for flubbing up on camera like that.
Eh, for me it's a non issue. I want to see some crunch from the candidates and am still trying to keep an open mind. As a conservative, this kind of mistake doesn't bother me at all.

I have to say that, when we're in a military conflict that's ostensibly with radical Muslims, it might matter if the guy in the White House shared religion with the enemy.

All religion is bullshit. I don't care if he's a Christian, Muslim, Scientologist, or whatever. His beliefs are wrong.
Next non-issue please.

Dunno. I usually just assume sarcasm unless otherwise indicated.
If you were serious before, we may need a naive smiley.

No I wasn't serious. I should have said "The big question is does it bother those Americans who think that he is a Muslim after seeing that?"
I'm a bit drugged up today. My sentence structure may need some work.:o
Wow I am so ready to believe anything bad said about Palin and disbelieve anything bad said about Obama and I think a lot of people have these blinkers on. It is mainly due to the fact that both sides are lieing through their teeth wherever possible. What is throwing me however is that I am not yet prepared to believe that McCain is a complete asshole - the Dems really have to pick up their game with vilifying him to the level that everyones else is currently vilified.
Still who cares what I think as I don't get to vote for the "King of the World" and only get to choose between Helen Clark and John Keys (who the New Zealand media are calling the white Obama because of his inexperience).

I don't think this will be a factor. I just can't imagine THIS being the deciding factor with people. Maybe I'M being naive.

If he moves quickly and decisively to dismiss this as an accidental slip of the tongue, it probably won't hurt him. If he admits to being a Muslim, stick a fork in him, he's done.

All he needs to do is arrange a photo op where he touches a woman on her period and pisses on a Koran.

So, what did the video say when it was still available?
And does anyone know the reliability of http://pimpinturtle.com? ...which no longer seems to carry it (from my two seconds of searching).
...and the fark comments say In the context of the conversation, Obama was agreeing that McCain and his crew haven't been exploiting the rumors of his Muslim faith, which he clarified one second after the cut.
I'm no Obama fan, but this is just trifling "gotcha" type stuff
This was mentioned as the full interview on abc http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/story?id=5746322&page=1 , but either it wasn't there or I missed the muslim bit.

Oh, brother. Everyone knows he went to church every Sunday for 20 years to hear the crazy Christian preacher. This isn't going to change the mind of anyone who watches the news, just add ammo for those who never would have voted for him, anyway. For Christ's sake, he mentions scripture in his speeches more than W ever did - OR McCain.

Good point, I wish he'd stop doing that.
At least, unlike Bush, he doesn't sit there and single out which groups he does and doesn't like. For instance, Bush is quoted as specifically stating that he doesn't like atheists. Fucking douche.
Well, Sing, the good news is that atheists don't much care for President Bush, either. At least it's mutual!

Yes, but what kind of leader goes out there and publicly states that he doesn't choose to represent all members of society? For example, it would be like becoming the governor of Alabama and saying that you're for equal rights for all members of society - except for black people, because you really don't like them black people.

McCain will be lucky to not die of old age by the time the election starts, so with any luck the problem will be fixed for all of us anyway.

Do you actually have a quote where Bush says he Chooses not to represent atheists?
And for the record, it is VERY different. Black NEVER changes. Like short or bald. Atheist CAN be a fluid and changing decision, people do change their mind about religion. Black, short, bald and Jewish are permanent and involve no choice.

In all seriousness, the absolute worst thing that could happen to McCain's campaign is a sudden health problem. Even if it's not as serious as a heart attack or stroke (which do spontaneously strike men his age regardless of their apparent health), if he's put in the hospital for a week people would worry about voting for him. People would worry that they'd actually be voting for Palin -- and Palin isn't Presidential material.

Edit: On a closer look at the page I grabbed this off of, the provenance is questionable.
# No, I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God.

I'd suggest then, at his age, that Palin will have moments (if not an entire presidency) where she has to do more stuff than previous vice presidents have done because of health issues.

I dunno, McCain isn't much older than Reagan, and other than being shot, his health was pretty decent during his eight years. I certainly agree that the possibility exists that he could have problems though.
