View Full Version : The Political Spectrum

I was looking at some old pictures and stuff on the hard drive, waxing nostalgic, and I found an old one of a political graph from old NKL. As the evidence clearly shows, I'm a moderate. The rest of you, except for Janos, who is safe, are pinko commie bastards. Just saying. Numbers don't lie.

We should do another one, though I have no idea how this one was made. I seem to remember a website that asked questions and then gave you your results.

I've seen several of those over the years, but not one with that particular set of axises. Left & Right, sure, but Authoritarian Vs. Libertarian? Don't remember that.

Looks like this one: http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html

The questions periodically rotate. This time, I scored middle-of-the-road libertarian. I used to reliably score the back wall of the conservative/libertarian line, but I've even scored left-centrist once.

That's a new one, cool. Thanks. :)

EDIT: Damn, I lean a little to the left??? Maybe I'm a pinko commie bastard. I should keep an eye on myself. I think I should go buy a steak for dinner tonight, maybe tell someone who asks me for change to get a job, so I can feel better.

The first one looks like the one from Politicalcompass.org. Interestingly, while pretty much all the NTL people wound up in the left/libertarian quarter, almost all established politicians are in the right/authoritarian quarter (with democrats being closer to the center and republicans farther away). Well, off to take the test at theadcovates...

I think that test is flawed. Apparently, AZRogue, PWD, and I are all in about 90% agreement on things.

Well, there ya go. Although 10 questions may be aslight bit thin to get true feelings. :)

The test at politicalcompass.org is a bit more comprehensive - I didn't count the questions, but there were enough of them that they had to split them into six categories. This was my result there:

Edit: come to think of it, IIRC the original picture wasn't directly from politicalcompass, it was from someone plotting the PC results on Excel. Mine is Economic -3.50, Social -5.69.

Here's my score on the other.

This one makes me feel a bit better.

Sobek
09-07-2008, 05:18 PM
Not me. This is the first time I've scored on the authoritarian/libertarian center. That makes me feel icky.

AZRogue

Here's what's really scary: Our politicians this year aren't all that varied at all. Damn, none of them are as Libertarian as I would like. Bastards.

About what I've always gotten on that test:

PWD

Busy with some installs, I'll go do it in a bit and post.

I think the first test exaggerated our proximity a little as it's a hell of a simplification, but I think we're somewhat closer than you probably imagine as well, if you strip away the heat of current-day situations and talk actual beliefs.

I'm kind of disappointed I'm not further "left," since I'm so against the "right," but on the other hand, I see some "lefties" who I think are batshit crazy so maybe this is the right place after all.

Economic Left/Right: -5.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.54

I thought I'd be a bit more to the centre.

Some of the questions were difficult to answer when they're so black and white, but that said, I think this looks about right.

Oh yeah, the other test. It says I'm a borderline Libertarian. I guess I do agree with some of their views, like getting the government out of people's private lives.

Politicalcompass.org says:
Economic Left/Right: -7.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.05

...I gots no graph, on account of I'm so damned lazy.

So, did it again.
Economic Left/Right: -6.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.87

That's the mirror (not opposite) of what I usually get. I think that's pretty accurate, actually.

Actually about what I would have volunteered if asked to place myself on the graph without the questions. :)

Ask me on a different day and I may be slightly more to the left. I'm usually pretty solid in the middle there.

Harry

Sooooo.....

Apparently I'm the only person left around here who is sensible and correct regarding all matters of morality and governance. It's quite obvious, seeing the two graphs. You are all mad, mad I tell you.

Well, I'm not very surprised. I am nigh indistinguishable from Schizm, left of Name Lips, and could have some good conversations with Harry Joy (though his fru fru "save the world" attitude is distressing. :D).

Can't get it to show the graph but Clay and I are about on par

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 60%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 50%.

According to your answers, the political group that agrees with you most is...

Centrist

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
