Palin not making Sunday show rounds

Only one member of the presidential slate will not appear on the Sunday public affairs shows this weekend and it’s the newest addition – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Democratic nominee Barack Obama will appear on ABC’s “This Week” while his running mate Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) will stop by NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Republican nominee John McCain can be seen on CBS’ “Face the Nation” but his running mate is not scheduled for any of the Sunday shows, which are considered a must-stop for any national political candidate.

Fox News will host a documentary on Palin on Saturday at 8 p.m. The one-hour special, “Governor Sarah Palin: An American Woman,” will not feature any interviews with the Palin but host Greta Van Susteren will speak to her family, friends and colleagues.

Palin does appear on the cover of a number of magazines that came out this past week – People, OK!, US Weekly and Time magazine.

For Obama and McCain, it will be their first Sunday show appearances since they became their party’s presidential nominee. It will be Biden’s first appearance since he took the No. 2 spot on the
Democratic ticket.

Meanwhile, “Fox News Sunday” will have its post-convention wrap up with Obama strategist David Axelrod and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis.

CNN’s “Late Edition” has a strong congressional line up with Sens. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas). Gov. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is also scheduled to appear.

Can they keep here from the press for two whole months? I am smelling panic.

You. Are. A. Jerk.

I thought you were really posting her first interview. May your children only ever learn the missionary position.

FLASHBACK: In July, McCain Promised His VP Pick Would Appear On Larry King Live»
Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that since becoming Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin has rarely taken questions from the press. The McCain campaign is increasingly shielding her from formal interviews with the media, saying that it will “do what we think is in our best interest.” Today, the Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder notes:

A senior McCain campaign official advises that, despite the gaggle of requests and pressure from the media, Gov. Sarah Palin won’t submit to a formal interview anytime soon. She may take some questions from local news entities in Alaska, but until she’s ready — and until she’s comfortable — which might not be for a long while — the media will have to wait.

McCain is breaking a promise he made on national television. In July, during an interview with CNN’s Larry King, McCain assured King that his running mate would appear on King’s show shorty after his announcement:

KING: We have a history on this program that whenever the vice presidential nominee is announced, he or she appears on this show the next night. It’s been going on for quite a while. We hope that Senator McCain follows that tradition since I have a hunch he will not announce tonight who that candidate is.

But how close are we?

MCCAIN: I want to say that that vice presidential candidate will be on your show. I will not risk the wrath of Larry King. I want to assure you.

In fact, instead of honoring his word and granting King exclusive access, McCain recently canceled an interview with the newsman as punishment for a tough CNN interview with a campaign spokesperson.

You are not allowed to know how she thinks on her feet. No! Not you!

So Palin's first interview is not only on Fox, it's on Fox cable, where many folks including me can't see it. Real pity. If she were showing up on Cinemax, I'd be getting cable installed this very moment.

It isn't an interview, it is a documentary.

So the Republican Vice President nominee won't be appearing for a real interview any time soon because she's not comfortable? LAME. Seriously, that's pretty weak. I think it's going to backfire on them. They're claiming she has the experience to handle the job they've nominated her for and she's uncomfortable talking to the country she's supposed to lead?

It's a blunder. The longer it continues, the worse it will be. You can get away with a lot of stuff but not answering questions when most of America wants to know more about who you are isn't one of them.

I disagree. It will play excellently. The McCain bloggers are already screaming that it is unpatriotic of anyone to expect her to do interviews right before her son deplots for Iraq.

Want to know where the VP candidate stands? WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA'S SOLDIERS?
