No, it's not the princess bride, but it's worth a gander.

It doesn't live up to the book. But I do like what they did with De Nero's character.

I don't like the changed ending and I really don't like how much they sapped it up, although I am impressed that they managed to create a pretty good climax from a book that was rather anticlimatic.

I've never read the book, so I took it as it came. It was rather predictable, but for all that, a very good entry in the genre.

And the wife loved it gaga head over heels, so the extra brownie points don't hurt either.

Mmm, the book wasn't as predictable, and chose to make a lot of plot twists less obvious with more hinting rather than shouting "HEY GUESS WHAT! I'M AN ENCHANTED PRINCESS!!!!" A couple of other aspects were also displeasing. They left out my favourite line from the book and they also left out Tori Amos's tree.

I still have to finish the book (I'm at the part with the unicorn), but, uh, it pretty much shouted, "HEY GUESS WHAT! I'M AN ENCHANTED PRINCESS!!!!" in at least two places. Is there another enchanted princess that I'm missing?

I enjoyed the book and also enjoyed the movie. Honestly, I don't mind the change to the ending at all. I thought it worked well for how they presented the film. The young man playing Tristan was very well cast, imo.
