... endless fun.

As you know, I moved to London last Saturday. Being a good citizen, I reported said move to all interested parties, including my electricity supplier. So they send me a letter here in London, confirming their registering that I am moving abroad, and asking me to write down the electricity meter readings in the Netherlands on the day I leave there.:grey:

You know, London is abroad? As in, I am already abroad? As you know, as you sent your letter there? So how the fuck do you expect me to read the electricity meter in the Netherlands? My telepathy is minimal at best and doesn't at any time extend to electricity meters, I'm afraid...

So they give a Customer Service phone number in the letter. I try to call them, but it's a special 0900-number that can only be called from the Netherlands. I visit the web site and try to fill in a Contact Form, which is not accepted, because the phone number on which I can be reached is not accepted: it must be a Dutch number! Argh! Has no-one ever moved out of the Netherlands before???

So I asked my Dad to phone them up and call them stupid people, please...

Next item on the list: Delivery service. The Cartographer ordered a monitor for my computer as a welcome gift. Bless him. On Monday, they came and delivered it... except I was still in bed, heard the door bell, quickly jumped into trousers and a t-shirt, ran downstairs: gone. I looked down the street, but nothing.
So I phoned them, and they were going to deliver it on Tuesday. I waited at home all day on Tuesday, no show, so I phoned them at quarter to five: Yes, it was scheduled for delivery today, they deliver till half past five, so please be patient. At six, I phoned them again. No, the driver had called at five to five, but there had been no response! ??? I had heard nothing! They could send it again on Wednesday... Ok then.
On Wednesday, all day wait again, nothing. Phone again at six: No, there was no delivery scheduled for that day, as they needed permission from the sender to deliver a third time, and that permission had only come on Wednesday, so there was no delivery possible that day. Okay, had the lady not been able to know that yesterday? Or could you possibly have called? No, that was the responsibility of the sender. And they hadn't called. Also, the sender might charge us extra for having to deliver three times. Excuse me? It wouldn't have been necessary to deliver three times if the driver didn't just quickly ring the doorbell and then run away, but maybe wait a moment, ring the bell again?
Okay, the lady said, we'll deliver tomorrow. No, I said, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning, what if they come during that time? Well, the lady said, last two times they came in the afternoon, so they probably will again tomorrow. Is that certain? No, that's not certain, delivery times are between 9 and 5.30. Okay, I said, then deliver on Friday please, as I may not be home tomorrow if they come while I am out.
So, on Thursday I come home from the dentist to find a slip of paper on the mat: We tried to deliver your parcel, but you weren't in...

:banghead:

This morning, the bell rang, I jumped into a dressing gown, raced downstairs, and finally got my monitor. Yeay!

at least you got your monitor... was there no option to go down to the deliveries office and pick it up? that's what we do here, I don't even usually give them a second delivery attempt.

I had similar problems with the utilities just moving out of state. Even with the address changes, one still tried to charge me for usage. Good luck with that communication :)

Yeah, there was that option, but as I don't have a car and don't fancy cycling through London with a monitor under my arm, I didn't consider it a very good one.
