...not written by Petraeus.Despite Bush's repeated statements that the report will reflect evaluations by Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, administration officials said it would actually be written by the White House, with inputs from officials throughout the government.http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-pullback15aug15,0,4840766.story?page=2&coll=la-home-center

Also, not that public.Senior congressional aides said yesterday that the White House has proposed limiting the much-anticipated appearance on Capitol Hill next month of Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker to a private congressional briefing, suggesting instead that the Bush administration's progress report on the Iraq war should be delivered to Congress by the secretaries of state and defense.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/15/AR2007081501281.html?hpid=topnews

Fairly disappointing, given how much the President has stated this will vindicate the Surge.

Classic "bait and switch" particularly given all the statements the Administration and their enablers in Congress were giving in the series of debates on bills regarding funding and withdrawal about waiting for the General's report. Nothing really surprises me any more. The President is running out the clock and any of the blowback from his failed policies is going to be blamed on successors (likely the Democratic Party). It makes me sad.
